Especially for Noobs or HMG - junkies!
I don´t want to bother expierenced players, who already know the problem, but those
who are new to this game and occassionaly pass by these forums. Maybe they will read this
story.
I joined an 18 slot pub server, on which a game was about to begin.
I joined marines, since there was a slot free (Aliens were one more) and took the comm seat.
I forgot the maps name (as always) but it contains the hives "Refinery", "Feedwater Control"
and "Port Engine".
I had 7 marines to command and we build up an installation as usual with having the
expected Skulk rush very early. Thank god, my fellow weren´t that noob and took them all
out with little casualty and managed to get the structures up quickly. Then I sent out some
for scouting which hive is up and some for getting nearby resources.
We discovered that the refinery hive was the starting hive, so I guessed that the alien
players will try to get feedwater first, coz it was the nearer hive. Indeed we secured the
Port Engine hive with having no Alien attacks on it, while I sent a group of 4 marines to
secure the double res point near feedwater. When Port engine was secured by a phase gate
and 5 sentries (4 as a scuare around phase and TC and 1 guarding a suspicious vent.) the
first skulk came to fight for the 2 res nodes near Feedwater.
It was already too late for them, coz we had a phase, a turret fac along with 3 Sentries up there, already building new ones, so that point was also secured for now. When the double res node was occupied,
I build 2 arms lab and a prototype lab simultaneously, and began researching weapon and
armour upgrade. Shortly after that I let respawned Marines build an additional Infantry portal and began researching the heavy armour. A good decision as I discoverd soon. Scouting marines reported that the 2nd hive on feedwater had been raised, but they managed to kill the gorge building there. Nethertheless I expected minimum 2 to 3 minutes, till the first fades would arrive there. I immediatly began making preparations for siegeing the hive.
The crew build phase gate, Turret Fac along with some sentries, just in time when the first fades arrived. Lucky as we have been the Level to upgrades were almost completed, along with the heavy armour.
I instructed a spawning marine to raise a 4th inf portal in the main base. I wanted to make sure that my team spawns like hell. But they made a pretty good job. While others sacrifised themselves too hold off the fades as far as possible, a marine got the 2 siege turrets up. 3 seconds later 1 of the 4 fades was killed by the Siege blasts. Simultaneously I discovered that the HA research was completed along with the level 2 upgrades.
Now I equipped 2 marines with heavy armour and ordered them to work as a charging shield giving the light marines some cover. Those 2 succeeded in entering the feedwater hive area, followed up by 3 light marines, the same time the hive died. The marines managed to kill another fade while entering the area, but the 2 remaining fades were on the run.
So I ordered the HA marines to check our structures for damage, while sending the other 3 light marines to chase the 2 fades. Indeed they managed to kill another fade near that cable-car thing on the way to refinery. But then they got by skulks helping the last fade to escape. Since he ran like hell I guessed he had been critically wounded.
No problem they all got respawned at our base in a matter of seconds and than I decided to do the final step. Crush the last hive. By that time we got all upgrades + jetpacks + heavy weaponry. The only thing was I had not the resources to equip them equally. I explained to them and they were agreeing in having different equipment.
So I gave out 2 more HA, now having 4 heavy marines, a jetpack, 3 HMGs, a GL, a shotgun and 3 more welders. Altough this was not a full equipment I now had a formidable force of 7 marines, who had enough firepower to do the job.
Also I noticed that 2 Alien Players had already left the server, leaving 6 Aliens players behind. I now gave them the waypoints to the remaining refinery hive. On their way they killed any enemy and destroyed any structure getting in their way while I encouraged them to advance by catsing health and ammo infront of them, so they could see it. As they tried to destroy the enemy res towers I ordered them to go on, since we should act as fast as possible. They agreed and moved on.
Then the bad thing happened.
Suddenly, while my team was installing a turret fac and a phase gate near refinery, another marine appeared in the main base, yelling for HA/HMG. I checked the stats and saw that 2 more alien players had joined the game, so he could enter the marine side. I said that I am to busy to check base right now and he should get to refinery without heavy equipment to aid his fellows. He kept yelling for that stuff but I ignored him and concentrated on my team.
Suddenly I got "ejected by vote". I asked if the others in the previous team voted in favour of kicking me, but they negated this. They did not even saw a vote happening, neither had they time to vote, coz they were busy in guarding and building.
That new guy entered the command console, bought his stuff and exited it. I could not reenter the console due to the ban. Meanwhile the others were stroke down by a fierce surprise attack of the remaining fade along with skulks and lerks. The rush on the last hive was countered. They asked why I left the command and I answered that it had not been my idea. After a while, when the Aliens started a combined attack on feedwater hive installation and still no one had entered the command console I left the server.
A guy just destroyed the whole game because of his greed for the f*cking HMG/HA equipment, as if they would meant everything. And if another player has it all must have it. That greed and dumbness (I hope this is the noun of dumb) is a powerfull Allie of the Alien Team.
A Marine, staying in the base, waiting and yelling for a GL/ HA or HMG/HA is absolutely worthless to the team.
A tip for those whiners to make the game more enjoyable for the comm.
1. You can ask for Equipment, but only ask once. If you don´t get stuff, don´t spam. The comm is already busy and the marines outside the base come first.
2. If you don´t get your desired stuff, don´t stay in base hoping that something pops up. Meanwhile you could aid you companions even if you are only equiped with standart stuff. If the comm was clever he has done full upgrades, which will make every marine very formidable, even with standart.
3. Obey! Obey! Obey! The comm can make a mistake, sure. But he is the comm. He gives the orders. In the military not following orders is called insubordination.
4. If the comm does not give you direct orders check if there is a phase gate or wait for a just died marine to spawn. Both will most certainly lead you to the other marines and there you get your objectives for sure.
5. If the comm gives you orders directly through waypoints, voicecom, whatever, do as he says.
As for me I am fed up with playing comm, playing marine.
Maybe even playing this mod for a while.
Greed and jealousy is it what destroys the game as well as TOO much individuality.
But, well. I guess this will never change.
Sorry for writing mistakes!

Maybe even playing this mod for a while.

"its my server and if I dont get my exuipment the game ends"
Dedicated servers rule!
bad thing about NS is that one misbehaving player can kill a whole team sometimes.

(duh!)
[rant]Sometimes those cabooses will help you with your decision. Since I couldn't sleep recently, I picked up NS and tried it out again.. the first game was a 4x4, was an exciting, fun-filled match of marine death-ness The next round I go marine, comm, and flatten an unprepared alien force. The final game of the night was the cincher. 4 marines were playing against 3 kharaa, and my two teammates were clanmates that decided they wanted to be total cabooses. I went gorge, and after asking the other guy to devolve since I was capping my first res node when he decided he wanted to start defending our first hive from a marine rush. I chastised him a lot, and can understand how that makes some people turn into cabooses. He proceeds to parasite the marines heading for our hive but never does anything about it! I had just completed capping about 2/3 of the resource nodes in a mad rush to get the happy amount of resource raping that I like to do when one of them tells me "first hive is gone." I panic, build 3 def chambers and sit at a hive, expecting to be the only one left. I end up being the only one left, but not before I start building a 2nd hive, erm 1st hive since they watched the first one die. Time goes on, I get the 2nd hive going, and finally the aliens can respawn again, and I can build other structures once more. I wall off Data core, to prevent those nasty marines from using the chokepoint and proceed to work on getting defenses back up where the marines had torn them down. What those 2 players were doing during the whole time remains a mystery to me. I start attacking the last hive as a gorge (using the creeping infestation method) and get it back, to hear that my resource node waaay over on the other side of the map is under attack, right near our hive. I finish off the defenses in my starting hive, build it and waddle over to see what the marines had built by the time I get there.
They had already built sieges, while the 2 clanners were off evolving, or god knows what. I get flattened by the heavy marine presence as a gorge was not meant to take on 4 marines and a few turrets. I go fade, take back most of the hallway, then proceed to attack their main base in an effort to distract them away from the hive. It works, and I get my third hive up. I go Onos and crush them like bugs.
My score ended up being something like 41 and 2, and would have been better (fewer deaths) if those 2 clanners hadn't decided to try and lose the game for me. I ended up winning it, but the only good thing about those clanners was that they never went gorge to suck my resources away and what little chance I stood.
Bah, I hope to never meet clan [uG] again. [/rant]
We marine players need good commanders like yourself!
What happened to you would probably make me get REALLY mad and throw things... I understand your anger.
I think I was playing on your team for that game. Your description sure sounds familiar to me. We eventually won the game, largely because of the good job you did when you were in the chair.
I specifically remember the vote to eject you. I certainly didn't vote for it - I thought you were doing a great job. When you were ejected, several other players also said that they didn't vote to eject. I do not know what happened there.
You were a great commander. I hate playing marine when the cdr is an idiot. Please don't give up commanding over one jerk. I would be happy to have you commanding my team anytime.
Well, it is actually not bad if you have players, who are giving you info like which hive is up, or if they have constructive ideas. Sometimes I got in a message from a single marine who sneaked near a hive without being noticed and after his call I send a phasegate up to him. That often was a great job he did, since when the phase goes up his teammates can reinforce him.
But the most annoying thing is the cry for heavy equipment by guys who will die anyway because they think they can rambo with it and end up dead after killing some skulks and getting into an ambush.
Therefore I advise any comm to use all weapon and armour upgrades. They cost more while doing, but they always were a great help.
