Now, We Donce

<div class="IPBDescription">???</div> Okay, many people have said that the saying that plays when aliens have 3 hives is "Now, we donce." and have said that to correct those people who think it's, "Now, we dance."

My question is, what the heck does "donce" mean? I typed it in a dictionary.com and they have no entry for it. Trying it at Google shows that donce actually is a word in some other languages, but I cannot find the definition for the english word 'donce'. What up with that?

You can speak the "a" in "dance" with to different pronounciations, like i.e. "can´t".

It is Donce and it is nothing more than a net slang term for Dance.

    [edit]
Here is a forum title for another HL mod.

For now, stop correcting people and accept that it's donce. If you take Nems advice and visit the IRC rooms, you will learn. If not, at least leave other people to wallow in their donceiful bliss.

Okay, we've all heard most of these expressions but what actually triggers them? I am pretty sure that "Now, we dance" is triggered by the third hive going up, but it must have more requirements than that. Does it depend on the state of the marine technology? How many building they have? See what I'm getting at?
  • UnitUnit Join Date: 2002-08-26 Member: 1230Members
Far as I know it's actually a server-side variable that determines the chances of that .wav being played when the 3rd hive is coming up. It has no relation to anything else.

It's a gardening term. The hive is clearly saying "Now weed, ants!"

Incidentally, I heard the hive speak once when I was playing marine (the "This is my hive.." speech). I thought only aliens heard that.

Just so everyone's clear - it's a quote from a Saturday Night Live skit. The word is dance, but it's pronounced "donce" with a German accent. The skit was Sprockets with Mike Meyers. Maybe you're all too young.

    It's Donce.

Pre-Release humor, all you people that joined the forums around Haloween wouldn't know, and those of you who have never been in IRC wouldn't know.

Yes, this is really quite a silly question. One of those random pre-ns jokes we all had, like "donce" and "pance" and "pai" and "crei" and the sort.

Thanks for the replies, to all those that took it like I was calling you idiots for saying 'Donce', you totally took it the wrong way. I was just combing through the forums last night, read a post that had 'Now, we donce' in it, and was just wondering what the heck donce meant. Since I couldn't find it in the dictionary, what better place to ask? Since everyone seems to agree that it is 'donce' and not 'dance', I just wanted to see where it came from and what it meant.

Thanks to those that have cleared that up for me...

It's a conspiracy, obviously. And since you are obviously one of the uninitiated, be silent before our agents 'deal' with you.

Er, yeah. I think it's triggered by the third hive coming to life when the marines have either low tech or very few structures. Or maybe when the third hive comes up and the marines have already had many of their structures destroyed, and the game recognizes that a third hive now is simply overkill.

I heard 'need better players' last night. Don't know the trigger, but it sure was the truth.

Anyway, if you ever hang out on IRC you will see "donce" is IRC slang. Why? Because donce is so much cooler than dance.

What in the hell is this?

U should really visit this place, and stop watching yank shows that must find the poshest ENGLISH people they can find (i.e. friends). Thats right ENGLISH.

Britain (as alot of americans seem to forget) is made up of 4 countries. Ill write them just so u remember.

    England
    Wales
    Scotland
Northen Ireland ( Note this may not be part of britain in a few years)

The "English" people u find on ur shows have the strangest accent ive ever heard. I think its an English person trying to sound posh most of the time. I suppose if they dont sound right then all hell will break loose.
i.e if they actually sounded like a normal english person.

British people, dont have a common accent. Niether do the english, but i suppose it would sound the same to the un-trained ear.

So remember, Britain is not another name for England.
