Okay so I have read a bunch of potential ways, but currently what is the actual way to get my grubby mitts on the Linux server files? I have a VM roaring to go. Cmon, let's get another server in the fray!
If you want to update the Server, lets say, from Build 255 to 256 in a few days (or a week), then you need to log in to SteamCMD again with a valid Steam Account, which owns NS2
it is time they remove the needed subscription from the server files.
or valve has to redesign the steamcmd tool (old hldsupdatetool was way better imho)

Thanks now maybe you can actually tell me how to get it.
Please let us know what message you get after running "app_update 4940 validate", thank you.
Then you can grab either AppID 4920 or 4940 where 4940 is the Dedicated Server and 4920 is the Game Client.
Hopefully UWE will change it, so that anonymous logins can download the NS2 Dedicated (AppID 4940).

This is not the case anymore, you only need to create a new steam account.
