[Linux-Mint] Black screen when attempt to join server - game does not start.

I get just a black screen now when trying to play online, it seems I can do a Vs Bots locally but playing some server online I just get the black screen. If I press ` I can get some console or so up, so it's not actually "crashed" it seems.

Operating system is Linux Mint 15 (64bit)
nvidia GTX275

I did try switching out the nvidia drivers for more recent ones and back again but this doesn't appear to be the issue as I say, locally Vs bots it seems to work fine.

Not sure if there's additional information I should provide, sorry if this isn't sufficient.

Thanks :)

    So, the OpenGL renderer tends to hang on a black screen for a long time upon loading into a game right now. I had assumed that it was just the fact that the machine I use for linux testing is pretty terrible as a gaming machine:)

    can you Try again and wait for as long as you can keep your sanity and see if you load in.

    if you don't please post the contents of ~/.config/Natural Selection 2/log.txt and your sysinfo.

    Thanks:)

    Hallo.. well I connected to a server and then went and made a cup of tea, played a bit of guitar, ate an apple, waited a solid 10mins, but it didn't appear to get any further. I did notice before the update it took a little while at the black screen, but I dont seem to get any joy at all from it now..

    I dont really feel like waiting longer than that, hope it is ok.

    It seems to just sit there using about 14% CPU, 1.3GB ram usage.

    I attach the log I think correctly.

    Is it worth re-iterating that it will work OK when doing the training Vs bots, it just seems to fail when attempting to play online - I have tried multiple servers to no avail.

    System is

    Linux mint 15 cinnamon
    AMD PhenomII 1090t (6 core 3.2ghz)
    8GB DDR3 RAM.
    nvidia GTX275 (using recommended proprietary driver 310.44.something I tried also 313.30 same difference)

    edit: Oh I have dual 1920x1080 displays using Nvidia Twinview

    I attach also glxinfo output.

    Thank you kindly for your attention.

    I have the similar problem on ArchLinux x64
    GeForce GTX 550 Ti

    multilib/lib32-nvidia-libgl 325.15-1
    multilib/lib32-nvidia-utils 325.15-1
    extra/nvidia 325.15-5
    community/nvidia-cg-toolkit 3.1-2
    extra/nvidia-libgl 325.15-1
    extra/nvidia-utils 325.15-1

    To get logs I've started the game the such way:

    $ cd /home/archimed/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/common/Natural\ Selection\ 2/
    $ LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/home/archimed/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/lib/i386-linux-gnu:/home/archimed/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu ./ns2_linux32 > ~/ns2_out.log 2>~/ns2_error.log

    Logs are in the attachment
    ns2.7z 31.2K

    @ArchimeD
    In your case that will likely help, the give away right now is that there is something about an extractor not correctly descending from resource tower in your log. for some reason that its the locale bug's signature.

    @ODDity,

    So, I am running ubuntu 13.04 on very similar hardware let me see if I can reproduce it.

    Edit:So, my total load time is around 5:30 onto a random ns2 server to being able to move.

    There was an issue this morning with the stats servers being overloaded, but it seems like your post was late enough that that was not your issue.

    gonna load up cinnamon and see if that causes the same issue.

    edit2 : so loading cinnamon, the full 3d version, caused me to both blackscreen and to more than double my load time. However after 14 minutes, it did finally pull through and let me play. I would try swapping to the 2d version and see if it helps.

    This is running a GT610, which is basically a non card for all intents and purposes so that could be why.

    Finally, I noticed that it could not find your sound. I might play around with that a bit and see if you can get it working/that makes any difference

    Sir, I didn't notice any issues with sound when playing with bots, indeed this seems to work fine.

    I'm not really prepared to wait such long time - even in the short time I've had the game did have 1 or 2 matches prior to the update that were over quicker than it would take me to load this.

    I do hope some fix will be made available in due course, this does unfortunately render the game unplayable for me at this time it would seem.

    Thank you again for your attention.
