Red plug, unplayable

Hey guys, I don't have any technical background but I understand the point of researching before asking the question. Looks like most of the issues are due to router settings, specifically Thompson. I use a Netgear router and the issue I have is shortly after joining a game I experience the red-plug and have only a second or so of actual play before the red plug returns. Let me know what information you guys need!
Strangely, my first online game played without a hitch. I've only lowered my graphics settings to speed tutorial play while I learn the game. Thanks all.
