Black Screen

Hello,

I just bought two natural selection and when I connect to a server and I arrived in the waiting room I have a black screen (see screen the field below):

d4648d3fde95ccd723a1724779fcb835.jpg

Have you an idea of the problem?
I already checked the cache and reinstalled the game several times, I've updated my video drivers and updated DirectX but nothing changes.

Help me.

Thank,

best regards.

Tchupa.

This is generally due to forcing AntiAliasing in either CCC or the NVIDIA Control panel. set it to application preference and thing should work out.

I turned off the anti-aliasing but it changes nothing

Which driver version did you install? The last one that i know which supports your graphic card was 307.83

    From the Shop page:
system requirements : DirectX 9 graphic card with 1 GB , ATI X800, NVidia 8600 oder better

I am sorry but your card only seems to has 512 MB and therefore doesn't fit to the minimum settings needed to play ns2

BTW DoD Source was release in July 2010 while NS2 came out Oct. 2012, so you cant really compare those two games. Today most games require at least 1 GB GRam

If you want to do a low-budget graphic upgrade i would suggest to go with the AMD HD 7770 ( around 90$ inc. FC3). With that card you should be able to play all current and at least all titles of the next year.

Ok, I ordered Sunday a new graphics card: Sapphire Vapor-X HD 7950 OC 3GB With Boost

But I'm not really sure if either is as the beginning of the black screen?

    What do you think?

Because the game would work and it would be very slow.

The explaining for the "Black screen" is the missing of any textures because the engine just overloads your GRam. Therefore the Game works but its unable to fill all those objectives with textures.

You can test this by yourself: Open the console (^) and type r_stats and look at video memory free
e.g. the game already load 300 mb textures with the main menu (as the backround is nothing else than a small lvl). Going into any ready room, "boom" we have over 500 MB video ram used. at this point your graphic card says something like "dude i cant handle all that stuff , ill drop my memory now" and this results into the "black screen" (no objects loaded)

Ok, I understand the problem better, I have more than to wait for the new graphics card this week.

Thank you for all the details.

    Uh... you mean 2005??

Comparing those two engines is just mind blowing: its a 7 year difference, and really its more like 8, being ran on the source engine... developed by hundreds of devs with near unlimited budgets for over six years.
    ;)

I've had a similar issue with a bad install before. Try deleting the local steam files to include the App Data folder. Then re download/install from steam. I have loaded NS2 on a laptop that had nowhere near the minimum requirement. Granted it was unplayable but it did load the menu.

Using vram which works fine if the graphic card is fast enought what seems to be not the case for the thread poster
