Gorge Sprint Jump

Just got off an NS2 game where half the alien team was gorge. One gorge was near impossible to catch. Not that my aim is terrible but the gorge was able to run much faster than I've ever experienced; it was able to traverse entire hallways before I would turn a corner. Basically the gorge would sprint, jump and while airborne shoot a few times, land then sprint, jump, repeat. The gorge used its momentum to throw itself down hallways and around corners leaving me in the dust. Heck the gorge could probably run just a bit slower than a jetpack.

I've seen this sprint jump tactic used before but I have never seen it used this effectively; in my experience behind my smg gorges lose momentum when they jump. Are gorges supposed to be able to "launch" themselves through hallways must faster than marines can sprint or is this a momentum glitch/exploit? (I'll make a video if I see this again).

you sure the gorge didnt have celerity? I love gorges with that.

I'm sure it had celerity...but it was fast. I would turn a corner and swear there was a lag spike because the distance I last saw the gorge compared to the new distance with time lapse was questionable.

There is no such thing as sprint jump but gorges with celerity are very fast and can easily run from marines. The best tactic I have found if you are in open ground and have no other choice other then run away in the open is to belly slide (hit shift) and when you start to slow down you jump twice and when you land the second time you initiate a belly slide.

Another tactic is to belly slide off the downward slope of objects like boxes, railings or even deviations in the floor to get a boost of speed and instantly jump which i GUESS is sorta a sprint jump if you think of it that way.

Or you can go supaleethax and place a clog and bellyslide off of it.

Gorges definitely can get away fast as hell from marines with celerity+Bellyslide. If this is a big of an issue though as you say, I'm sure you can email the devs with the video/tactics and they'll get working on it.

wana see something impressive? try droping a clog on the ground infront of yourself jumping on it and sliding down the otherside.... now do this while runnning from the rine shooting at you, all of a sudden you get a downhill boost in the middle of a level floor AND you have a clog in the line of sight between you and the rine spunging bullets!

Gorge is preeeeetttyy cheap for what he brings to a team at the moment... ableit more expensive than before (by 1) with full upgrades, but if you just want to throw your gorge powers at an enemy you really only need carapace or celerity :p

no true gorge goes in without cara+adren+aura. to survive, to bile, and to target.

celerity is wasted on a gorge, as no true gorge turns away from battle.
regen is wasted on a gorge, if spray was good enough for my grandpappy, it's good enough for me
phantom is wasted on a gorge, as no true gorge ever runs and hides.

gorge power. It's like white power but cuter, and less racist.

He's too cheap, that i agree with, and it negatively effects many aspects of the game.

But that's not what this thread is about and what's been discussed, nor is the lifeform design itself OP in any way. ;-)

Plus, I've really just been waiting for the day this happened.. After "railgun exo OP" and "railgun exo useless" threads existing in the same week one time.. I realized any thread was possible and therefore it was only a matter of time until the gorge was targeted!

I can't wait for the Babbler OP thread then.

It completely depends on your play style as gorge. From what I see there are 2 types of gorges. 1 is the kind who makes a base and defends a position. The next is one that uses hydras/clogs to fortify a fallback position then plays the aggressor and moves with aliens or simply by them self to go support aliens and get kills. The ladder are generally competitive players. The upgrades you choose for those two are completely different.

Personally I use Celerity-regen-aura 95% of the time as gorge. In my experience and play style for gorge they are far superior. 99% of pub gorges play way to passively and haven't learned how powerful spit is now. Celerity allows you to be the aggressor then retreat and take a new better spit position for any one who chases you. Generally there are easily 1-3 fallback and spit positions before they push you back far enough to reach your clog-hydra nest. Regen allows you to focus 100% on spitting since you are not tanking tons of damage unless you make stupid mistakes. Aura well..is just stupid powerfull for gorge for obvious reasons. I would pick aura over any other upgrade for gorge. Knowing when to retreat and where to retreat to is key in playing gorge. Adren and cara are almost useless for this type of gorge play.

However, for a suicide bile bomb rush Adren, Cara and phantom are 100% the way to go or if you are acting as heal bitch I would choose adren, regen, and phantom. For gorge all of the upgrades are viable right now depending on the situation.

    @amoral
you underestimate the combat readiness of a celer gorge.
It can much more quickly cover the map & keep up with his buddies.
Its a bit easier to dodge exo fire, as anyone in a exo should gun the bilebomb gorge.
A fast retreat & live allows for a 2nd attack

i think you might have just created another rule 34... contradicting threads can and will exist in the same rarified space given enough time.

celerity is pretty boss, but i always find myself wanting to have that reserve of energy in my back pocket for some reason, usually for the fact that you can take out marines buildings with a full charge if you have to. other times running out of energy healing xeno buddies between engagements. also, bile + spit drains you dry pretty damn fast. I'll have to reconsider regen, i'm not sure how much cara gives, but it always felt a tad more tanky to me.

With celerity not counting bile bomb you can spit 46 times before you run out of energy that is ALOT. If you are healing a lot there really is no harm in quickly switching to adren when the time calls for it. That choice is extremely situational. Also, I would give regen a shot. Pre 250 gorge was 100% carapace but post 250 is nearly 100% regen for me. Give it a shot and see how you feel about it. I find it compliments the celerity upgrade very nicely. ;)

Yep. I think the main reason regen made it's headway into matches is that it now heals WHILE in combat. That gorge running around the corner that you shot for 300+ damage? He's almost full health again. God that can fun and annoying.
