Phase Gate Portal Suggestion

I think it'd be REALLY awesome if phase gates gave visual feedback as portals.

Meaning:

You can SEE what's on the other side of the phase gate (like portal), instead of just a warp blur.

This shouldn't throw off balance too much and it would add a lot of dynamic gameplay to pg defense.

Also, you'd see, WITHOUT A DOUBT, where you were phasing to and what positioning you should try to prepare for.

    It's be cool if you could shoot through them too....

    But to make it fair, aliens should be able to use them too.

    I dunno. It's something I think would be cool to try and see how it worked.

    Even if player movement can't be mimicked in the portal, being able to see the location would be great. There's already camera tech in Heist, so seeing the destination shouldn't be far off.

    Looking into the portal might just double my CPU load... if it doesnt, I'd rather have a rear mirror.

    Could be implemented currently with the camera stuff that went in for heist. Although portals ala Portal (valve) would be awesome, nobody would ever phase and would just shoot thru PG from the safety of main base.

    Would be cool, though I'm not sure it would be worth it, all that effort just so marines can gauge exactly where a skulk is (well 50% chance) when they exit the gate.

    Would be an awesome idea. I hate that feeling of disorientation when you go through a phase gate and can't figure out where you are for a second.

    Would also help us flame idiot commanders who build their phases facing the wall quicker, too. ^_^

    I also was thinking commanders could like nano shield the gate and that would prevent the alien side from going through.

    As far as performance impact. I really don't think it'd effect much. It'd be a small window with a shot view distance and a blur overlay. It shouldn't slow down anything.

    Maybe someone can test this with a mod or something. I'd love to try it on our testing proto server.

    IIRC, this was the devs original vision with the gates. Don't know if they ever plan on doing it.
