Menu/Game Not Working

MusikMusik Join Date: 2013-05-11 Member: 185194Members
I played this game during the Free Weekend about a month and a half ago. Worked great. Now when I click on one of the menu options (Play, Options, etc.) the button animation moves to the right and then nothing happens. All I see is the background of the game and the menu button I hit. I've tried all the top Menu fixes and updated my drivers, validated integrity, almost all the fixes I've found. No idea what to do. The only thing I see in the console is error #383. Also, when I try to join off a friend it will load the menu and then show the player list in the menu for a split second before it closes.

Navigate to Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\Natural Selection 2, and delete your cache folder. The restart your game and see if that fixes it.

    I haven't played for a while.
I thought I check back in.

I have a new issue with the menu as well, as above.
The main menu is there, when I select something, it slides to the right.
The main menu fades, but nothing appears to replace it. Example: the actual options, or server browser.
Also, sometimes only 1 option is available to be clicked on.

I tried to clear the cache, didn't help :(
I tried verifying game cache via steam.

I did notice a large log file with errors relating to the menu in the appdata NS2 directory.
I have attached the log here.

Here's some screenshots that show this in action:

You can access the web browser at the bottom, but nothing happens unless you open the console and enter quit.

I managed to fix this issue on my own.

Looking through the log, I noticed all errors were related to the menu files in the "lua" folder.
It was affecting menu sounds, menu and sub menus

    so i went to:
steam/steamapps/common/natural selection 2/ns2/   deleted the "lua" folder
right click on Natural Selection 2 on steam library > Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Cache...

    and fixed :)

Next time you may want to not delete it, but move it.
ya know, so the devs can have a broken copy to see wtf is going on. :)

I've attempted to replace the LUA twice, as well as the cache. Still no luck, so if the devs want a broken copy I can hook them up. I'm at a loss at this point, guess I'll send them an email.

Rename your mods folder too (%APPDATA%\Natural Selection 2\Workshop\) to see if anything there is messing things up. Older mods might be overriding base game Lua scripts, which is very unstable behaviour.

Tried deleting my entire appdata/natural selection 2 folder and no dice. At this point I'm thinking it's something gone batty with my windows install. Tried updating video drivers as well, didn't solve anything.
