Ns seems to have gotten a lot of recognition as beign a decent mod recently, with Gamespy giving it mod of the year. It's also taken a pretty solid grasp of 4th place on the Gamespy top mods for Halflife, however there general feeling seems to be that player numbers are decreasing.
Is that suprising? Not really... after any release player numbers will spike and then drop to a pretty steady level.

Do you know anyone who has quit NS for another mod, or have you quit it yourself? Why?
Do you think the number of players will stay more at less the current level or can things only get better/worse?

Most players of long term games I know, tend to have 2 main games at any given time.

Example : Generally, I am playing NS & AHL, or NS & RtCW, etc etc. Lots of people play NS & DoD (tho why they play it, seeing as it's MOH:AA but not as good, is beyond me)

It keeps the interest up if you vary your gaming, and AHL (in my case) keeps my accuracy practise up.

Probably gonna have a time for a little while longer where the player number continues to decrease. However, very soon there should be a sorta stabalization of the number of players as the game as been out longer and those who are gonna stick with it begin.... sticking with it....

The player numbers have been between 1500 and 3000 for the last month. I guess we're already in the 'steady' area.

I just surf from release to release. Before NS, I played firearms for a while. Before that I played DoD for a while. Before that I was playing CS for a long time. Since it looks like 1.04 is taking so long to come out, perhaps I'll switch to whichever makes a new release next. Variety is the spice of life. I would say NS is my favorite right now, but I think lack of maps is killing the novelty factor.

Yeah, lack of maps is probably one of the main reasons people are leaving right now. In my humble opinion, releasing with only 7 maps was a mistake, but I understand how hard it can be to acquire and/or make high quality maps. There are quite a few good-looking maps in production right now from the fan base, so I'm sticking around.

I can forgive the (relative) lack of maps due to the high quality. Seven isn't really a bad number of maps for a first release either.

Besides, how many maps does it take to please a CS player? All that is needed is ns_dust...

as soon as the marine vs marine scenarios get released, then all the deathmatch shootem uppers will flock to Ns.

ns_strife is a godly looking map. It plays great as well. I wish all mappers were as considerate as the creator of strife to remove as much lameness as he can from the map.

I would say that NS is similar to Science and Industry (an excellent mod) in that it takes strategy, thinking, and teamwork. This makes me think that maybe the numbers for NS won't stay as high as they have been. All the other mods for HL are just pure action and twitchiness... Well not all other mods, but a majority are. People just can't seem to live with a thinking mod, it takes too much effort to learn all this crap when they can just pick up DoD or CS real fast and go shoot people.

As to the lack of maps, I can live with only seven, heh. If you haven't noticed, the seven maps that we have are all amazingly high quality. Even if you don't like them all, they all have great gameplay and looks.

Forgive me father, for I have sinned. My faith has been found wanting and.......i've started playing CS again

Seriously though, me and some friends have formed a semi-serious CS clan. Despite playing CS for ages and being fairly decent i've never been in one so I am currently taking a hiatus from NS to see what its like being in a clan. I love NS and do prefer it to CS and will still play it when I can, just not as often.

You want to know what clanning is like? make a NS clan. Not that hard of an idea.
