Graphics Card Recommendations? 660ti vs 670/680

Hey Guys!
Propably there already is a simmilar post somewhere, but due to the not so nice search function, i could not find it, so sorry for that :-/
Since i've just seen how good the game looks without motion blur on the NSL Final in cologne last Weekend, i really also want this for me!
I've got a 144Hz Display already, but... only got an ATI right now, which does not support LightBoost and i bet there will not be something similar in the near future.
So my only option is to get me an nvidia card.

My first choice was the 660ti. But i am not pretty sure if a 670 or even 680 would be better for NS2 or not.
Since most likely the CPU is the bottleneck for FPS in the game, i would like to know what you would recomment. Is it worth it or not? Any experiences so far or even tests on it?

my current CPU is an i5 3570K @ 4.2GHz

I had a huge post about stuff, but decided to simplify it.

Get two 670s or two 680s for NS2. Also you might need to overclock your CPU some more, so get a H100 water cooling system if you don't already have adequate cooling for your CPU.

NS2 is generally far more CPU limited than GPU, which is the opposite of most games. A 660 Ti ought to do you just fine for consistently playable framerates. If you are trying to match your FPS to your 144Hz refresh though, that's a different story.

Either way don't get a 680, it only gives you something like ~7% more performance than a 670, but at a hefty price premium.

If 4.2GHz is as far as your willing to push your CPU, then the 660ti is fine.

If you plan on trying to OC more to get as close to 120fps as possible, then you'll want to get the 670 or even 680 if you can afford it.

gonna place a vote for a saphire 7950, with an unlocked vcore. performs similar to 670, can overclock to perform similar to 680. Only costs as much as a 660ti.

And if and when NS2 is optimized to the point of not being a cpu bottleneck, you'll wish you had the 7950 :)

Need to read the op, he wants to use the lightboost hack so he's stuck with Nvidia only.

edit - do not waste time and money on lightboost, it's simply nothing special. You'll just set yourself up for dissapointment.

To get rid of a LCD's motion blur? I'd say that's worth it.

If you have not seen the game without motion blur, please do not comment on it (otherwhise you would not argue like that). As mentioned before, i have just seen it live last weekend and already made that choice for myself since it looked WAY different during fast combat than that what i've got right now. Of Course a descent CRT would help this as well, but they are pretty hard to get.

I won't mind overclock my cpu more. I did not check how hot it got during the game, but i got a Thermaltake Silverarrow SB-E Cooler, which should not be so bad. Any numbers for me how far i could get here?
Also thanks for the Tip with the H100. Have not heard of it before, but it seems to be not so expensive (below € 100,-). Would prolly also fit well into my Graphite 600 Case ^^

I have a lowly GTX 460 and it still works alright.

saw it as a downgrade if anything. dims and cuts colors severely, slight barely noticable improvement over standard 120hz, i accually think non-lightboost 144hz is better

    I'm at 4.6 ghz OC on 3570k chip and have a 660Ti.

Just ball parking these numbers since its been a while since i looked but I get between 70-110fps in most combat. Just running around the map it depends what map and where Im at but i can get from 80-160 fps (these numbers are more accurate).

This is 1 resolution down from 1620-1040 and all the graphical settings off or on minimum (except details is on high).

I upgraded from a 4830 to a 660gtx and saw almost no fps improvement at all with a 3GHz C2D. I run 1280x800 all low details and get 80 fps ready room, 50-60 early game and around 40ish in early combat. 25 late game combat.

Core 2 Duos are old. If you're running a 660 (non Ti I'm guessing) shove that resolution up, turn your settings on(keep aa, ao, ts, vsync off) and at least enjoy the pretty visuals.

Im using a 144 hz asus monitor as well. My system is 4.6 GHz 3770K with a 680 GTX. Did not notice any major fps improvements overclocking the CPU from 3.5 -> 4.6 Ghz though.

My settings are 1920*1080 with textures on medium and everything else on low.

Playing 6v6 on NSL maps I get constantly 150-200 fps.

Playing pub 20+ players I get ~130 fps early game and down to ~60 fps late game.

The biggest difference in getting a high end system with a 120+hz monitor is that playing marine and lerk is so much easier. Especially close quarter fights with the shotgun as a marine.
