Once you get that PC built, unpark your CPU cores. The i5 will go beast mode with parking disabled, especially in Planetside 2 or other CPU intensive games.
Spend a good £20-30 on a heatsink and fan. God damn Intel- even with a beastly Arcitc cooler the size of my fist mounted on my i7 950 and a front case fan, back case fan and 2 side case fans, Prime95 can still get it to 90deg within 90 seconds.

Pretty much the same. My i7 920 runs far too hot at a 1 ghz overclock that I actually lose the benefit as the CPU is dynamically clocking up and down due to the temperature.
So pretty much a complete rebuild, for ~$610 after taxes.
Only issue:

This is an issue with pretty much all large-sized aftermarket CPU air coolers, even on full ATX mobos. You're generally limited to either:
- Adjust the heatsink direction so it doesn't overlap the RAM (might have to remove a fan or have the fan sit at an angle on top of the RAM)
- Get RAM with low profile (or no) heat spreaders so they can fit under the overhang
- Switch to liquid cooling

Yea, as I seemed to have rolled the dice and lost- with respect to my i7 being from a batch that doesn't overclock well- I'm semi-seriously considering:
38º on the graphics card after an hour of gaming.
Ambient temp is probably around 20º.
I'm not gonna be OCing for a while, gonna see how stable this thing is first.
It wasn't an issue on my old Mobo.
I had an ASUS P5N-T Deluxe.
Were you using the CM Hyper 212 on that one? I'd put the 212 on the small end of the 'large' air coolers, so its a probably more inconsistent problem than other ones (see the Silverarrow or NH-D14).
Okay ended up with an i5 3750k and asrock z77 pro 3, this thing idles at 23-25deg. using some hyper212 blablabla cooler. Prime95 got it as high as 55deg so reckon there's room to get to ~4.2ghz.
On a side note Windows 8 ties its registration to the motherboard; installing a new one meant the O/S thinking this is a second PC so refuses to activate. After an unsuccessful message-box chat with a customer service guy I need to ring them in the morning -_-

I assume you mean the fan on the front of the heatsink is sticking out far enough to block the RAM slot. You should be able to just unscrew and reverse the brackets attached to the fan so you can mount it as an exhaust on the back of the heatsink instead of an intake on the front.

I wouldn't unless you want a cheaper way to cool many components for overclocking (e.g. GPU, RAM, northbridge, etc).

The fan attaches to the heatsink with clips.
The heatsink is a square, so I can't even rotate it to fix the issue.
Whatever though, I'm sitting on 8 GB of RAM anyways.
