Client and server differ

Hi. I'm running a combat server and this morning, when I tried to connect, everything was in order. I played a couple of rounds and quit. Then a few hours later I joined back and as soon as I joined aliens, I got kicked out of the game. I could join marines but when I get closer to the alien hive, I got kicked out again. It says cliend and server differ. I did the verify integrity thing and re downloaded the workshop files. I also checked the version of the server I'm running from nanogrid and it's the same as the game (b239). Wierdly I can play on other combat servers so I belive this is a server side problem. Most people can play my the server without a problem but me and a friend of mine is having this problem. Any advice?

Might be a consistency checking issue. The next time it occurs, open your console and see if it says anything about a specific file failing the consistency check.

You shouldn't be getting kicked out during the middle of a round with the error "Client and Server differ" or at least I have never heard or seen of this happening.

The only times you would receive this error are when a file doesn't pass consistency checks (as ScardyBob said) or in the case of your client having a more recent version of a workshop mod than the server does. The former doesn't sound like it could be responsible for your error in this case as the consistency check is done when you first join the server. The latter also doesn't sound like it could be responsible as this would also be checked when you first join the server.

Please post the contents of your log file (%appdata%\Natural Selection 2\log.txt) so we can see what is causing the issue.

Suppose I'm getting consistency check failures in the console (never mind which files just yet)..What is the solution to a consistency check fail?

Best bet is to try to restart Steam first and foremost to make sure that the game has updated itself. If that doesn't work, next thing is to check the integrity of the game cache files.

Restarted steam and verified cache. I still get the "client and server differ" error. Something about failed consistency checks. Check the console log. Can't join any server. No mods active. Kinda bummed out. :(

I'm guessing it'll be a complete reinstall for me, but it'll have to wait for morning.

I am getting this, even on an unmodded server? IS anyone else having this problem? I am currently validading steam files and ill see if that helps and get back to you on it.

    Apparently it fixed itself somehow.

I've had the same problem. Thursday I started getting the "client and server differ" when trying to join a server. I tried later was was able to play. Today I can't join any servers. It says files may be corrupted. I verified cache, toggled auto-update to force update, restarted steam, restarted computer, I even deleted local files and re-downloaded NS2. I still can't join any servers.

Try deleting your workshop folder in C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Natural Selection 2. It will re download everything. This is how I solved it as I recall.
