Phase Gates

Should I limit my amount?
Whenever I command my team, I typically build phase gates everywhere, meaning, EVERY resource node, ALL Hive Locations, and EVERY frontline outpost. That's about 10 phase gates linking back to main, I find this very effective as my marines can get anywhere at anytime.

All I say is "Hey guys, there's something going on at Mother Interface, phase there please and investigate," and there, I have 3 guys looking for any hostiles. IMO phase gates are much more useful then Turret factories, as I go by this thing as "Turrets don't kill enemies, they just keep them at bay, Marines kill aliens only."

But everytime I do this "Phase Gates" strategy, at least someone says,"Don't build too many phase gates commander." And the 1st thing that comes to my mind is that the guy is a noob that doesn't know that he can warp from phase to phase just by standing on it. Am I wrong in thinking this; should I really limit my phase gates?

Yes, the more phase gates you have abroad, the more of a chance that some aliens will group up around it and teleport past your defenses right into the core of your base. Only build phase gates when you -absolutely- need them.

    ...And what about spawn-frags

I've never seen aliens use phases gates to their advantage, but I always play on public games anyhow, plus, if they did use the phase, they'll probably fall into my turret defenses or my marines. Usually, any alien that uses phase gates are usually commiting suicide.

No, because if a group of fades can attack your base head on and win, they can just as easily, if not easier, phase into your base and massively atack the tf/ip's. If you've never seen an alien do that well, then you're not playing with very good players.

Its actually a useful tactic to capture a marine phasegate... 4 fades going in single file is very hard to stop.

and it also makes it annoying as hell to warp thru 10 other phase gates to get to the one you want.

Aliens useing phase gates can be deadly depending on your base defense setup. I was playin on ns_nancy and the commander had only guarded the entrance to the cockpit, there were no turrets near the CC. A bunch of fades just ran through the phase gate and destroied the marine main.

    i hafta disagree

turret facs are extremely useful when u get those two hives down.. because skulks get chewed up by well placed turret guarding a turret fac...

and well i normally put phase gates in IMPORTANT places

    ie...

Base (DUH!) , Hives, and Double resource node areas, AND when im making a quick outpost and need people to get their asap, example if im seiging an area but after i recycle the outpost as i advance.

I thot many phasegates were good everywhere until i learned from this post but i wasnt as pahse gate hapy as u

also, in hera, i make one right at the otp of the lift, beacuse the lift is a very dangerous

phase gates, as said above, need to be limited, should be one at each hive you capture and one at any important place like a seige outpost.

Here's something to watch out for - if you are one of the many comm's who do the obs / phase / phase rush and forget about turrets at the main base, skulks can jump through the phase, take four or five bites (or more) out of the obs and then be on their way out before you notice. Of course, this works with any structure but the observatory goes down in a hurry.

(this happened the last game I played, twice. Annoying and a waste of res for the marines)
