Microphone works, but not in game (I checked on vocaroo.com). So, feeling a little bit stupid... how do I fix this? I tried restarting game and still nothing.
if it works in windows it should work in ns2 too. maybe you have a problem with your sound drivers ? it is supposed to be just plug and play in ns2. just take a look into your windows settings ;)

In NS2, open the console(key is in the options) and look what recording device has been detected. Is it the same as your windows's default recording device and is it your microphone?

I know for sure with Valve games when watching first person demos you will not be able to hear yourself unless you have 'voice_loopback 1' on. I don't know if this command is available for NS2 or not.
Maybe someone from UWE can tell me if this is related to my mic problems, because it appears in logs when no one can hear me.

These errors aren't important, they just weren't shown before the latest patch. About your microphone problem, try to deactivate every recording device in your windows settings except two, your actual microphone and "What you hear".

Alright lets start over cause this one is starting to get me frustrated.
Lets run through all of this: What are your system specs?
Causes: 1. Microphone hardware issues 2. Soundcard issues 3. Windows Volume Control issues 4. Voice Transmit volume is too low
Fixes: 1. Microphone hardware issues. Check all possible connections, ensuring that the physical connector is both plugged into the correct hole, and that the connection is clean, free from static influences, and fingerprints. Clean the microphone jack with a soft cloth, then tap the end on an unpainted part of your case, when it's plugged into the mains. This will both rule out the possibility of a dirty connector, and any possible static buildup. Also, ensure that your microphone is actually plugged into the right connection, which is usually coloured PINK.
2. Soundcard issues. Ensure that all drivers are correctly installed, and that the problem is unique to NS. This can be tested by playing a different game, either another Half-Life mod, or a different engine altogether. If the problem isn't unique to NS, then try installing the newest drivers for your soundcard, downloadable from the manufacturer's website.
3. Windows Volume Control issues. Ensure that the microphone volume isn't muted in the volume control, under Windows, accessible via Start -> Run -> "Sndvol32". Ensure that the microphone volume isn't at 0, and that it isn't muted.
4. Voice Transmit volume is too low. Check the voice transmit volume in NS, via Options -> Voice. Ensure that there is a check in "Enable Voice communication in this game", and that the Voice Transmit slider is turned up. Finally, click on Test Microphone to ensure the settings are ok. You should hear your own voice, and the visual EQ bar will move to the right.
Also, upload a log file and link in here so it can be looked through to see if there is anything there, as well as checking to make sure your mic works in other games (Steam and non-Steam).
Ok so some lack of information in here, first off if you're using a USB microphone it may have issues. This should hopefully be fixed in the next build.
Next you can try making sure that you set your microphone as your default recording/communications device.
Finally if you're trying to hear yourself by using the demo command your voice won't be recorded from that. The only thing the demo records is the actual gameplay. You could try fraps to verify it's working properly but really the best way to make sure is to get into an actual game and ask people if they can hear you.
-Mic works in Windows -Mic works in other Steam and non-Steam Games -Mic works in Steam Settings (Voice Panel) -Mic works in Teamspeak -Mic is the default recording device -NS2 Console & Log shows up correctly -Mic is 3.5 Jack - NOT USB
I have a ASUS Mainboard with a Realtek on-Board sound card. Running Win7 x64.
Solution for me: I de-installed the Realtek driver and using the windows default driver. Now it works fine.
I really don't know why this driver don't work with ns2... As u can see above, it works with everything else.
<!--quoteo(post=2067394:date=Jan 27 2013, 09:28 AM:name=EddieFromEurope)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (EddieFromEurope @ Jan 27 2013, 09:28 AM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=2067394"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->For some unknown reason my microphone has been working... I've done nothing really, except replug the microphone in the jack.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Did you perform this while in game? If so, then what most likely happened is it reset the device in the game for it to be able to properly recognize it.
Same problem. I know how to set up my audio so its not just me being completely clueless. I do however have multiple sound cards (I do audio mixing, recording, music creation), but I already made sure that the motherboards' primary sound device is the default sound driver from windows recording settings. The other sound cards are ASIO driver cards, they usually don't default in none sound editing software but I do not know for sure that NS2 has a audio conflict because they are installed. When I start up NS2 and bring up the console it always says:
Record Device: Microphone (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Which is completely normal and it should work since I am using the mic jack input, but it does not work in NS2. I tested the mic via Steam Voice Settings, Other Video games, and even online though web browser. Mic setting does not seem to be an issue when it comes to anything outside of NS2. Could my issue just be NS2 not down with me having pro audio interfaces instead of the typical single sound card interface? or is my issue the same as the OP and other members of the NS community? Hope they can fix this issue on their end cause this game feels incomplete with out my mic , It will be a terrible experience being a commander if people can't hear me on the mic.
Ok, after some thinking I've decided to post this. You will probably think I'm a very silly person but I had problems with my mic too and just couldn't get it to work. I tried every possible plug/unplug suggestion, I went through all relevant soundcard and windows settings. Nothing seemed to work...
Until one day someone told me to try and rebind the voice key in the in-game options menu. Well, I always assumed the game would use the steam binding, but it doesn't. So I bound the proper key. Problem solved.
Not sure if the OP has the same issue but my MIC hasn't been working either in NS2 due to the following reason.
Error: Couldn't start recording (Unsupported file or audio format. )
Error: Couldn't start recording (Unsupported file or audio format. )
Error: Couldn't start recording (Unsupported file or audio format. )
My PS3 Mic works everywhere else but this game. In Sound Settings its Audio Format is locked to tape recording quality (sounds cyrstal clear in other games though) and can not be changed. If you mic is a mic that has an Audio format that does not change and is not supported by NS2 it will not work in NS2. They were supposedly going to patch this but two patches since and they still haven't.
