Who Thinks Readyrooms Are Bad?

RenegadeOTVRenegadeOTV Join Date: 2002-11-28 Member: 10192Members
I think server admins should have the option of disabling the readyroom and using a menu. Both teams don't get a fair start becuase everybody is sitting in the readyroom fighting to be a marine so the teams are not balanced. For the first 5 minutes on a 20 man server there is 3 marines, 2 aliens, and 15 people throwing a party in the marine part of the ready room.

What do you guys think.

It would be too much like CS, I think the Devs wanted to try to avoid hte joining menu....

No way. The Ready Room is an innovative addition to this MOD.

Think of the possibilities mappers can make, perhaps a game room?

The right click menu has served NS well

But I know what people mean, I do prefer the RR to some sort of join menu. I just hate it when people pile up in a doorway.
I actually thought the RR would have games in it, lol. Something like a target range or obstacle course. Although you wouldn't be able to die, clearly.

The readyroom is great...You guys are crazy. You need to talk to people all at one time and decide what team your going on.

And if you do really want to join a team fast, bind keys to jointeamone or jointeamtwo, which automatically start you on marines or aliens, respectively.

Maybe maps can also have a playground like McDonalds where your kids can play while you are busy fighting the enemy?

If you dint have readyrooms you would have people join spamming from the vgui menus until they joined the team they want, much like it happens in any other mod with a vgui game join.

The readyroom is part of NS, no matter what it looks like, you will still get those people who want to join a team even if they have to wait for 20 minutes to get into the game.

PS: ns_irc is a playground, made by egc:. Us3r of course, who else could think of such a thing?

/me goes out to play in the swings of ns_irc.

Well... to be truthfull... the RR are actualy NEEDED in NS. Think about about: When you have a menu, you need some form of background to go with that menu. In most mods, they will have different camera angles set up around the map so it gives the player the feeling of the game before they actualy join a team (example: DoD, CS, TFC). Now with NS, you cant actualy do that. Lets say you have a menu in NS, and you place camera locations through out the map. But one of the camera locations shows an important location in the map where the marines are building, so you join aliens and you report to them that they are building in that location.... see where i'm going with this? The devs COULD actualy make you stare at an object or some type of image while you chouse your team... but that would be kinda lame. I beleive that the idea behind the RR is inovative and it serves it purpose. But what I do feel is that there should be some sort of timer, that if you do not chouse a team in a certain amount of time, it will teleport you to the random team selection entry of the map. I have scene some servers that have a mod that would kick you from the server if you do not join a team within 5 minutes. I think this is kinda extreame and the other method is alot better, mostly for the player. Players who just crowd the marines ussualy never try the aliens becuase they are afriad of trying something new. So they never get used to it, so they never get better, SO they stick to the marines. If this system was inplace, it would get people to actualy TRY the other team out and let the players get better at it, rather than just kicking them out of the server. Hell, if they dont like the team, they can just leave the server on their own.

Maybe there should be an optional timeout for ppl to stay in RR. When timeout hits they autojoin to the team with less players.

That's what I did in my first few games... but I think your faith in the sportsmanship of NS players is a little weak... I mean, after 7 marine games or so, a new player isn't only curious about the Kharaa, he/she feels GOOD about trying it out. At least I did, and I'm taking myself as an average player example here. It feels good to confidently join the aliens as a semi-new player... just give it some time, the readyroom will teach players good sportsmanship.

There is no difference between people standing in front of a door for the team they want to join and those people pressing a button to join the team of their choice. I've been in many a CS games where half the players are sitting around as spectators because they all want to be on a certain team and wont join the other. It may be a little different because of how much the teams differ in NS, but getting rid of the ready room is not going to fix your problem.

The ready room is one of the best features of NS, when the game is over, you can chat about it in the ready room before you play the next game, just like if you were playing Starcraft, or any other RTS, you could chat about what went right, what went wrong, etc. before playing again.

This may not mean anything to you, but it means a hell of a lot to me and many other players, and I'm pretty sure Flayra digs it... So, no.

I'd much rather jump around in a join team portal than click a button over and over again.

Plus RRs are cool and are as much a part of NS as...well....

...They're a major part of NS.

Like stated several times, if you dislike the readyroom bind a key to jointeamone and jointeamtwo (one = marines, two = aliens).

On the subject of a timer though, I really think there needs to be a integrated timer into the readyroom. If you haven't joined a team within 3-5 minutes your kicked. The reason I don't send them to the random team is because your forgetting a lot of the times they are AFK. I have played many a games where I wanted a friend to join but couldnt because there were 3 people in the ready room and when I go to RR to check it out 2 are lagged out and 1 is afk... Kind of ruins the even teams philosphy.

Timer= Bad Idea. Alot of people just talk a while in the ready room, either about the last match, what team they wanna join, or something that happened in real life. Think of the RR as a channel you talk on before joining a match.

Yes, I've played on servers that run a mod that gives you a certain amount of time to join a team before it kicks you from the server. Not only is that annoying, but when it warns you, it slaps you around the room. This mod wont even let you spectate the match, it will kick you unless you join Marines or Aliens.

Everyone on the server was kicked once because after a round we were all chillin' in the ready room, talking about the game and what the teams were going to be for next round, and after 2 minutes or however long it took, the server booted all the players.

While I understand the people who run these server do not want people to hog their slots if they are not going to play, I don't think kicking people who don't join teams is the answer. There needs to be an auto time-out in NS, so that when a player is inactive for a certain amount of time, they are kicked from the server (ala CS), I'd bet there is already an option for this. That way, players who are just sitting around, away from their computer, will eventually get tossed, but the people who actually have a legitament reason to be in the readyroom and not on a team will be allowed to stay.

I am usually one of the people that stops and jumps around in the join marine bit. I'll agree to that and I know I do it, but theres a good reason why I do. I suck badly at alien, really I do. I'm always at the bottom, I just can't seem to get my head around the dang playstyle (So I go support you know using Umbra etc) However if the aliens are really outnumbered I'll join them. I just fight better as a marine, and I prefer someone who is slightly better as an alien to get that spot rather than the marine one, makes the game more fun IMO

I think the RR is a great idea, mostly cause its something different , makes it a bit more exciting than pressing a button u actually have to walk into them.

    More anything? more everything!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it would be great if there were more exciting entraces and more secret places.

i like the one where u drop down into aliens thats kool.
