Stats for all and maybe achivements :D
Ok so since I play alot of NS2 on servers close to me (Stammtisch in Vienna .. add me if u play there :P) and I noticed that most dont use NS2Stats I was thinkin of maybe just turnin it on for all in teh next build as it seems awesome and tells players alot about their skill :D + its nice to see how ur improvin :D
Also since stats is intergrated through steam anyway cant we just come up with a few achivements u know like kill a 1000 lurks .. or survive a round with the least deaths ... best k/d ratio and so forth :D .. Id be willin to paint the achivement icons :D i
So discuss guys :D

The game needs to support teamplay, not encourage people to go off on strange solo-missions for some achievement.
There are some servers who have NS2stats, if you like stats, play on them. There should be several in Europe with stats if you feel it's important.
It has been mentioned before. But unless the achievements are only of the "Sacrificing your own K/D to help the team win", "Spending personal res on helping the team win" or "Guarding a boring but strategic important part of the map", then I don't think they have any place in the game.
KD-related acheivements would presumably be limited in variety (get xx-xx KD, perhaps tiered, up to something like "pub stomper" 50-0 kdr (a score very high for a new player but easily attainable by anyone playing the game for more than a few days, so we dont get people endlessly KDR farming on pubs)
Casual gamers NEED STUFF LIKE THIS to keep their interest up when they hit a skill plateau, and those of us who like achievements would enjoy too- a trophy for my best pub games- though stat tracking would accomodate this just as well)

Hmm, what are your hypothetical achievments that would encourage players to go rambo? How about an RT-snipe acheivement for killing a certain number of RT within a certain aount of time/ without dying etc. Being encouraged to kill RTs is never a bad thing for teh noobs.
On giving it some thought, I think achievements (though stat-tracking not so much) could actually be the perfect tool this game needs in place of a tutorial- achievements that are designed to encourage players to perform vital team functions, would be a great way to introduce players to each level of gameplay in a modular format that would be much easier to process than simply "play this game, hope your first games have nice people in that will show you the ropes"

However there is no in-game stat tracking. Believe it or not, people like to be able to quantify their development which is currently pretty hard to do, and generally isnt a feature newcomers to the game will be aware of.
Alot of my friends wanna play but cant be motivated through just the game beign there ... its the curse of modren multiplayer .... and I think we can all agree that grinding and lvling is not the way to more sucess.... most people nowadays need positive reinforcement to stay ... and I want alot of players for NS2 in the comming years :D
IMO it takes away from the game more than it contributes.
