NS2 start-up crash

RadiaRadia Join Date: 2012-12-27 Member: 176403Members
When starting game via Steam, black screen appears and after about a second delay an error window pops-up. "Application caused an error and will be closed". Tried possible fixes here, with no difference.

Wanna help!

We will need a bit more information about what is happening.

can you provide more information about your system setup as well as the contents of the log file as mentioned in the post you linked.

QUOTE

Attach or post a DXDIAG information log file, this provides UWE with your system specs, driver and OS info:
Click on your Windows Desktop Start menu.
In winXP you want to find "RUN", in Vista/7 you want the search bar at the bottom of the menu.
Type in DXDIAG and hit Enter
A window pops up, Either a Diagnostic will auto run or you need to click on a button: Run DxDiag now ~something similar to that.
When the progress bar is done, Click on the "Save All Information" button, you can either copy paste it to the forums or post it into a website such as http://www.pastebin.com and post the link here on the forums.

Attach or post the contents of the NS2 "log.txt" file, this contains useful error messages for the UWE devs:
To get to the file, press windows key + R, fill in "%appdata%\Natural Selection 2", hit enter.
You can either copy paste it to the forums or post it into a website such as http://www.pastebin.com and post the link here on the forums.

I understand, that you have another issues, you all have to care about, but can't you at least reply, that work is in progress. I reported in December, and half of a January passed already!
I do not try to offend you, but... it is a little irritating, you know.

After all updates, game still crashes at the start-up, unfortunately.

Need pictures as your log is empty /not helpful.
have you tried reinstalling everything completely? Seems like a bad install

also your video drivers are out of date

Hi radia,

Sorry no one picked this up for you.

Looking at the log you posted. It looks like bad stuff is happening.

A few things things to check with this sort of thing:
First have you turned off mumble, or anything that runs an overlay so a GPU/CPU tool from gigabyte would also need to get closed.
Second ensure you have the visual c++ 2005 libraries installed. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3387
Finally, you can try installing the version of directX in the ns2 folder. Should be something like "%INSTALLDIR%\\redist\\DirectX\\DXSETUP.exe"

If those dont work getting a copy of the error log from windows might be nice or a dump report if you can manage

Confused,
I reinstalled the game, and followed the step you gave me, somehow that did a job. I don't know, what was the problem, yet it's fixed - no start-up crash.

Thank you and sorry for inconvenience.
