<div class="IPBDescription">Any pointers?</div>Hi everyone.
I was really enjoying this game but tonight I was happily munching through a power node when the game froze me out - it flashed a internet disconnected sign at me ingame and since then the game hasnt worked. At all. As in it wont do anything when I start it. Just says "preparing to Launch" and then does nothing.
Things I've done to solve this include
Verifying integrity of game cache - Doesn't in fact actually do anything - I tried walking away for an hour, came back and nothing
Re-installing the game - Still doesn't start
Posted a topic on the community forum - hoping that someone knows what I've done wrong
The annoying thing is I had this game working perfectly on full settings - There was a bit of glitch on the Marines flashlights (bit glare-y) but otherwise the game worked fine until this evening.
Can anyone help me fix this?
Specs as follows
I7 2600k 3.2ghz
16gb Ram
2gb Radeon 6950
60mb speed broadband
burning desire to play this game again and a skulk shaped hole in my heart

Same problem here.
I use Windows 7 and what happens is that I bring up NS2 in my steam library and launch it. Steam then informs that it is ''Preparing to launch Natural Selection 2'' then never does. The steam launcher informer just sits there and nothing ever happens. I don't even get to the Menu screen.
I have tried to verify game file integrity but again nothing happens. Just sits there. Doing nothing. Tell me that its doing it but nothing actually happening.
I'm guessing some update or steam client update happened and boofed me out but I'm not an expert so I'm only guestimating.
This morning when I started up there was a 160mb download waiting for me. Once that downloaded I started it up and the game is now working fine.
I gave it a quick go but it was running so I guess it used to work then didn't but now is so hooray.
I can now get back to skulking
1) Run dxsetup in drive\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Natural Selection 2\redist\directx\
2) Delete the folder drive\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Natural Selection 2\ns2\shaders
3) Press the Windows key and R (Win+R) (No Windows key? Try this) and type %APPDATA%\Natural Selection 2 then press enter.
4) Delete all the files in this folder
5) Verify the Integrity of the NS2 Game Cache:
6) In Steam, go to the Natural Selection 2 menu option, Right-click>Properties>Local Files>Verify Integrity of Cache
7) Disable all mods or even unsubscribe from them in Workshop
8) Re-Installing
9) Disable overlays from other programs such as Mumble and Teamspeak.
Non of the above worked for me so there's a couple steps you can scratch off the list. Or. Maybe you will get lucky and one of these steps will work for you.
Hopefully this will be resolved some day soon... this is day 5 with no NS2...
What do the contents of the log.txt file in %APPDATA%\Natural Selection 2 look like for you?
I would also reccommend looking through this list quickly
All i see there is "log" and "system_options" and in the options folder this is what i found.
<?xml version="1.0"?>
-<options> -<system> <runs>21</runs> <build>239</build> </system> </options>
Not sure if that is supposed to mean anything to me or not lol. Also I have actually come across that same list and it has done nothing for me.
Although I have gotten a hold of support and they say it has to do with some kind of problem in the sound files from a recent patch and it "may" not agree with my sound card, so that gives me something to try, I just need to get a hold of another sound card and see if that helps... but till then I guess I just keep trying other ideas lol.
Thanks very much for the help, Ill keep at it and if i find a solution I will post it.
So that we may see what errors you are getting
thanks
