Take the basic NS2 game and convert it into an Aliens movie simulator
I'm talking about the Aliens from AvP and stuff. They were basically the blueprint for the Kharaa, with the wall climbing and the growing hive. I feel like NS2 is the Aliens game that was always meant to be, but in order for it to be a simulator it needs to be a little different.

This is how the Aliens work.

Hives are now Alien Queens with the eggsack that attaches them to the ceiling, they function pretty much the same way as the hives in NS2 and also serve as the commander. They lay the eggs from which players spawn out of as facehuggers.

Player always start as facehuggers, and can facehug a marine player or a dog npc to become a chestburster, which then has the option of evolving into a warrior (role of skulk), drone (role of gorge), preatorian (fade sort of), or crusher (onos). At the start of the game, there will be multiple marines stuck to the walls of the alien spawn for aliens to quickly become warriors or drones and not be defenseless early on. but as the game progresses aliens will be expected to harvest bodies to continue their life cycle. If all the warriors and drones are dead, then aliens will just have to find lone marines to facehug and hope they can get away with it without being found by the others. The hive will grow as it does in NS2, but over time once enough mass has accumulated in one area the hive will being to take the HR Giger design shape, allowing aliens to hide in the crevices and attack unsuspecting marine players. Drones will be the creator of hive nodes however, instead of the Queen. The Queen oversees the map and can give orders to the alien players as well as spawning special eggs that speed up the evolution of the alien inside. So a Praetorian egg won't have to pay to evolve into that form it just will.

There is a lot more to the aliens but like I will add if people care.

The Marines will be like the NS2 marines but the weapons and vehicles will represents the ones in the movie, and certain technologies like teleportation will probably not exist, while the motion tracker will be a prominent tool of the marines.

If you want colonial marines then wait until February when the official game is released.

if I take this correctly, you're asking for a total conversion of NS2? I see no way that this is going to happen. I think that most people here have watched and like the Alien saga and some games connected to it. These two SciFi worlds may sound similar but they are different and that's what I think people actually love about the game. It's something that hasn't been done before (even with NS1) thus giving you a unique gaming experience. There are many games out there dealing with the Alien universe such as the AvP series or the coming up Aliens Colonial Marines (or has it already been released?), so I think nobody wants to reinvent the wheel.

NS1 had an Aliens total conversion mod (and it was great!) and there were no law suits afaik. Pretty much all the aliens looked like modified xenos and the marines looked like colonial marines with pulse rifle sounds and graphics. I don't see any reason why it would be a legal issue against UWE if it is a fan made conversion.

With Steam Workshop integration this is already inevitable ;) check out the great Alien Power Loader Exo-Suit.

Fan made conversions may be told to stop since AvP Colonial marines is coming out soon. You can try if you wish though.

Exactly fans can do whatever they want as long as they aren't making a profit. I just think with all the revolutionary mechanics in NS2 like the growing hive and all that business, it would be the perfect foundation to construct the ultimate aliens simulation. With the entire alien life cycle in effect, from egg to adult to queen.

FOX are very strict with their license and have closed down numerous indie aliens projects in the past, including some mod efforts.

it is untrue to believe fans can do what they like if they aren;t making a profit. If the mod could potentially damage sales of a full retail project (aliens colonial marines) by being popular and offering something better then it can and will be shut down by fox. Most likely before it ever makes beta release.

Some obviously get through due to being unpopular or unknown but msot dont.
