Black screen on launch- seriously in need of help

Hi everyone.
So I purchased NS2 in the steam sale and really want to play it but there's one problem.
I can't!
Whenever I start the game a black screen pops up for about 1 second then cuts out.
I've tried everything! I've literally searched on every forum site and tried everything that has been said but still nothing has sorted it out. :( I've been trying for days and it still isn't working.
I've updated all my drivers.
Re-installed and verified the cache several times
I've deleted files and run a DMX update
Can someone please help!!

Try to run the game with lower resolution settings on start up or in windowed mode. (right click in steam and add -windowed in properties/set launch options)
