Randomize

Hey all,

Search function came up dry so I asumed noone posted this 'recently'.

A annoyance I experience on servers now and then is that perhaps 3 or 4 people join, while the rest afk for a while in the readyroom before joining, probably stacking while doing so. (not to be confused with total afk)

How about a option for server admins to enable/disable (on for default I'd say) where everyone in the RR gets randomized on a team upon match start?
I would say make a 2nd setting to just random regardless to prevent stack in public play, but I can imagine that idea gets even more rage.

All Random makes for much better games, usually.

agree an all random option would be great, or instead of going ready room a swap teams option, so all marines end up aliens and all aliens marines on the next game. this could also be as well as.

They had this feature in AMX Admin Mod back in NS1. Regardless if you press F1/F2/F4 or run through any portal in the RR, it would randomize all players to a team. I thoroughly enjoyed this feature. The current Admin Mod (I am unsure what it is called) that most servers use in conjunction with NS2 Stats has a command feature that either an Admin can employ directly or players can vote on by typing "random" in chat.

I am sure it wouldn't be a large step to incorporate this as a server variable for the current Admin Mod in use.

yes.. I do remember that most servers in NS1 ran that mod. Was one of my faves aswell.
Seems more people then just me are for. ^^

A few NS2 servers have a 'vote to random teams' feature. Not sure what the mod is called, but it exists.

I think I usually prefer those servers.

Make it a button in the readyroom with a catchy shuffelin' sound. That'll teach them stackers.

there are servers with 'all random' ability already

Implementing this into the base game will obviously make the feature more prevalent. Given that this is a good feature (as it disallows team stacking), this ought to be the case.

Team stacking is a large problem right now, to the point where it's begun to affect balance perceptions. This is one way to mitigate that.

I like the sound of that, but i fear for 1 thing: friends. If i play NS2 i like to play it with friends togheter, and with the randomize chances end up we fight each other :/

so biting & shooting your friends is a bad thing?
I have just as much fun playing with friends, as defeating them.

Yeah this is the main reason I am against it being a standard thing that always happens.

I enjoy having 4 friends on skype, playing together on the same team. Its frustrating to play normal NS2 this way on opposite teams since we cannot talk tactics without telling the opposing team. Combat its fine, there isn't much tactically there.

I'd like to see the in-game random not immediately choose a team. Unless the teams are even, "random" will always put you on a smaller team. Rather, "random" should randomize all players that selected "random" at the point the round starts.

Once this is implemented, I'd like to see an incentive given to players that choose random. Perhaps an extra few personal res (or even team res) to start.

Well, you already got the "random team" entrance. And the resource model is maintained by the game, not by the readyroom. This is something that shoudn't really affect the individual, but the population. Right now we just don't have a visible attribute to distinguish players by skill, so randomizing is no real answer to the problem of balanced games as well.
