<div class="IPBDescription">Noobtube</div>with winter discount, there's been explosive ammount of newbies in this game, and then it hit me what could be better in this game to make uneven teams more fun.

answer is noobtube weapon for marines, weapon that needs NO skill to use compared to LMG, but would be actually worse weapon than LMG itself.

this weapon would be HMG LMG mix up, it would deal greatly lesser damage than LMG, would have huge clip to shoot and higher attackspeed, however if you would hug enemybuilding with both weapons you would do exact ammount of "DPS" to that building.

this noobtube attributes :

- huge clip, you could spray bullets longer.

- spread radius, you would miss most bullets but quarentee to hit some always.

- increased attackspeed to balance lower damage.

- would cost 10tres to research from armory, would cost 10pres to buy.

compared to classic LMG attributes :

- high damage

- insane accuracy

- relevately small clip

- hard to hit moving small targets

- free from res

as you can see, there would be insane skill radius between these 2 weapons, LMG still would be superior weapon AND free, but noobtube would be there if marine team is struggling to hit in earlygame.

this would make games where marine teams has no aim to have fighting chance to actually win, games where veterans stomp newbies are not fun, and all you need is 1-2 skulks to ruin whole game, 2 players is all that makes difference in rookie games, they literally stomp them and there is no way newbie can win them. they could learn about strategic point of this game instead of getting stomped and would improve, aka how to play this game, eventually they would drop this weapon in order to improve their skill with lmg, because they are forced to play with it in earlygame and because all veterans would prefer LMG because of high damage.

this game desperately needs this.

thoughts ?

edit : and i want to stress out that marine's doesn't have any weapon that DONT need high skill in order to hit, shotgun and pistol are actually worse than LMG for teams that don't know how to shoot.

Pretty much that video calls for mildly effective but very low-skill weapons for the game to 'take off'. I believe this game has a very few amount of these and because of this I believe newbies rarely take to the game.

You hit the nail on the head, this weapon would be a step in the right direction! Call it a 'Light Cycler' or something, make it like a PARA or p90 from CS.

Definitely an interesting idea, but i'm not sure that I would like it, but I would if it works.
If it were implemented, it would have to be <i>very</i> carefully balanced Because if a noob is decent with it: then a pro will destroy ass (and balance) with it. so it has to be Ok on a noobs level, but worthless to a good marine.

Not necessarily, what he is describing is a weapon that has less dps than the default LMG, and as such is objectively worse if the user can aim. Pros could only make it so good, but the newbs could use it at nearly maximum efficiency.

As valid as the point is, currently NS2 has each weapon filling a specific role. And not many weapons. Being crap isn't much of a role.

Would be interesting if marines had access to a large array of weapons though, some of which being noobtubes.

the idea of this weapon is that you need no skill to use or hit with it, but pro's wouldn't benefit from it because basic LMG would kill enemies actually faster if you can aim and wouldn't cost any PRES.

and ofcourse veterans would hate this weapon, because as a skulk they would get killed by newer players even if they are skilled them selves, and that's the whole point.

main point of this weapon is to introduce new players into the game, let them have fun and fighting chance to actually learn and win games instead getting chomped by pro skulks.

Make it available by default from the armory for 0 pres.

A weapon that has twice the bullets, with half the damage and more spread would do much more consistent damage, but it would not be nearly as powerful as the stock LMG in the hands of someone who knows how to play. So who cares if it's free?

err.. in public games you need to do tactic's your team is good with.

not what you think is good or what you want to do, and this game needs DESPERATELY a weapon that helps weaker team to ATLEAST have chance.

if you see you're team can't aim and you refuse to upgrade this weapon that would make you poor commander atleast in public games.

After watching the video some "unreferenced" person posted... Just kidding. :) Thank you Burdock and Yehawmcgraw. Now I'm convinced that we need a noob toob weapon for new players to stop them from being stomped by aliens.

One issue with this weapon is that some skulk players will actually dance around evading whilst marines empty their clip and use the reload time to strike. Increasing mag size too much will make this more difficult to pull off and may force them into attacking when the odds arn't in their favour.

however, i'm all for some more weapon variety (as well as similar additions to aliens). I think following a similar style to Team Fortress 2 with weapons/abilities is a good idea... where there is rarely a direct upgrade, instead giving benefits and cons over default guns. I'd probably go with an increased mag size: 70-80 (not too much, but noticeable) for a 25% damage reduction. This could give new players an assist in aiming (although i'd be more annoyed at hitting something a ton and them still not dying, than missing most shots and needing to reload earlier) but also be a good situational weapon against skulk rushes and the like.. so players don't ignore it after 10 hours gametime and they've got the hang of aiming.

Poor idea, we don't need more reason to make marines more noob friendly. They are alrdy the easier of the 2 factions to play, punishing skulk play even more will only create even more marine stacking and punish good player by guaranteed dmg. The hard part about this game is learning alien and how not to die, everyone got years and years of practice in FPS and it's only a matter of getting the feel to be decent at it in NS2.

well then you have a reason for a ranking system to be in place it has NO benefits and all it does is tell you are a good player or not and example to keep vets out of newbie servers is a level cap and to keep newbies out of veteran servers a minimal lvl requirement etc etc

whatever you're right or not is matter of opinion, i think alien is easier faction to both play AND to master.

that doesn't chance the fact however that aliens wins most of public games.
