Is your server West Coast?

edit: I have a feeling that you are gonna pull a fast one and it's gonna be a 100-slot server.

He made a thread a week or so back called "I'll Paypal you $50 if you tell me how to increase max players", so this is a very likely possibility :P

edit: damn, beaten by the OP. 32 isn't that much! I thought it was all a ruse to get people to try fill up a practically unfillable server.

Oh I wasn't calling into question whether you actually paypalled him, as I'm sure you did. I was just replying to the person who thought it might be a 100 player server.

Good to see some larger servers out there. I had a blast playing a 20vs20 game back in the beta.

Too bad I am east coast. I have never seen 32 person server. Wonder how the performance goes there. 24 people servers have issues keeping their performance at 100% as it is.

More like he's helping the game with high player servers. NS2 maps are far too large for anything less than 18 players. Anything less and the maps just seem too large for the amount of players in it. One of the reasons why most of the higher player servers are usually full.

As I only once played on a 24 server and never again, I'm curious to ask: how do most of your matches turn out? In theory Aliens don't scale so well with increased player counts (16, 18 at most) as the marines get more ppl building AND scouting at the same time, while the Alien comm can only expand so fast. So Marines should be dominating, right?

Apart from the game's delicate (and flawed some ppl might want to add) balance being designed around smaller player counts of 6v6 or 8v8, I really hated the overcrowded maps. It kills many otherwise valid strategies like sabotaging res nodes or killing a bases pg as a lone skulk. Just about everywhere you go, there will be someone to fight you head on. It rather turns the game into deathmatch than into strategically taking out buildings and res nodes.

It's the analogue of BF3's 64 Metro spamfest. I will never understand how ppl enjoy this kind of thing...

I'm not sure where you get the idea that alien's don't scale well with increased player counts. From my experience alien's do just as well with large player counts.

NS2 maps are so large you can still take out res nodes and base pg's as a lone skulk, I've done it a number of times in 24 person servers. You also have to remember that not only are there more enemies, but there are more teammates as well.

I really don't understand how people can enjoy small 6v6 games on such large maps where much of the map is going to be desolate of any action.

It might be that I'm just more of a fan of having more players. I used to play Team fortress classic competitively in 9vs9 settings where the maps were far smaller than Natural selections. I also had fun playing in 32 person NS1 servers.

Don't understand how we enjoy smaller games?

-Player impact. NS2 games are won by being at the right place, at the right time. Yes, you can still have a single skulk chomping on a res tower, but the effects of player impact is less pronounced.
-Stealth. Exists on small servers... not so much on larger servers.
-Organization. Micromanaging real people as a commander gets out of hand when you get to player populations of over 18. I stop addressing people by name after this count.

That's nice and all, but still doesn't change the fact that there is slower and/or less action in the game. Coming from 9v9 Team fortress classic, I prefer a lot of things going on at once.

I understand that many people who come from say 6v6 counterstrike or the like games are used to a slower paced/less action. I even played 6v6 CS matches myself and never enjoyed it that much because it was just too slow paced.

That's my personal preference, but many players prefer just playing with more players in general, it is the main reason why the larger capacity servers remain full and the smaller capacity servers not as much.

The game becomes progressively more imbalanced at large player-counts, but that doesn't mean people shouldn't be able to enjoy high-population servers. You can always just not join them if you dislike them... I for one like the variety - it's a different game. Sure, marines become a bit OP, but it's still fun. It's more casual, and gives a lot more breathing room to engage in shenanigans, as every single player isn't under pressure to be doing the most effective thing possible and every point of the game.

I like big servers, but the game lacks something that imo is very important for large # of players: the ability to select your spawnpoint.
Especially Aliens need the option to select a shift/hive, to spawn at...this way, you can create packs that stay together, and can be ordered around.

I look forward to playing 16 v 16. If i can see it in the server list, ill gladly join it although my ping to west coast is terrible.

Anybody who bitches at you for providing it can go ###### themselves. It is a pc game, the more mods and choice the better.
