cancel a beacon?

Dear UWE:

Why can't marine commanders cancel beacons? We had that in NS1 so why was it removed in NS2? Makes no sense, sorry.

Actually, one thing that'd be neat would be a feint beacon. Essentially you'd pay 10 res just for the warning alarm to go off. Causing single attackers/single onos to leave your base on the chance that it was a real beacon.

It'd probably be noticeable when no one showed up. Then your base dies because you just spent all your res on a fake beacon and can't real beacon anymore.

Yeah this definitely sounds more reasonable than being able to sound and cancel the warning alarm constantly for free.

I like the idea. Perhaps a 25% or 50% cost to cancel.

On the one hand, I would say no. Beaconing is a decision that must be made, and can come at a very high cost. The sound of the beacon alone essentially accomplishes what the beacon itself is meant to (every onos ninja hitting a marine base will run at the first sound of a beacon). Being able to cancel or feign beacon would be 100% effective and would take the hard choice out of beaconing.
However, this would reduce the amount of ninja kills on power nodes, and hopefully make it easier for marines to push meaningfully on alien hives.

If the game was balanced, I would say no, but maybe this is the kind of bandaid fix that will help things along.

    Dear UWE:

Why isn't NS2 the exact same as NS1? Makes no sense, sorry.

    Bandaid fixes are NEVER good.

Personally, I am fine with being able to cancel a beacon IF the cost is still subtracted (or a majority portion of the cost). Being able to fake out your opponents for free is a terrible mechanic.

Also, maybe the beacon could have a "point of no return" where, say, after 50% of the alarm has sounded, the comm can no longer cancel the beacon. This would still server the purpose, but make the comm actively decide if they want to actually beacon or fake it.

skimmed the thread for just this response. whats your excuse for the other elements ripped straight from ns1?

hate this stupid goddamn rationale that because it was ns1 it has no place in ns2.
