High end system still falls below 60FPS at lowest settings

I love NS2's gameplay but the performance is just so disheartening. I've read through most of the performance tips posted here and across the net to no avail.

I am running an i5-3570k, overclocked @ 4.0ghz, 16GB 1866mhz RAM, GTX670 GPU (also overclocked to ~1240Mhz core clock), and installed the game on 2 SSDs in RAID0. I never get below 60FPS even in the most demanding of games, with all settings maxed (farcry 3, battlefield 3 etc.). But in NS2 I am struggling to stay above 60 with all settings on low! The ready room I can see 80-120FPS in general, but as soon as I get in any sort of fight it just tanks to the 40-60 range. In game I see r_stats showing 0 ms wait on the GPU, so is this a CPU bottleneck? Considering I have pretty much the best consumer CPU you can really buy (besides the extreme $300+ intel chips), thats reallly hard to swallow.

In general for competitive online FPS I try to hit a constant 120, because below that the input lags starts to hurt my play. I don't really mind having to play on the lowest settings, but for how important frame lag is in this game (especially on marine), I really feel like it should be possible to have 80+ constant FPS with top end specs like this :/

Hope future updates are still planned to improve the performance, would be a shame for such an awesome game to be crippled by performance issues like this.

They should change it on their steam product page: "Recommended settings: Processor:Core 2 Duo 3.0 ghz" to something like: "Recommended settings: Processor:Core i7-3770K overclocked to 5 GHz". That is most unoptimized game I saw, really. And all they need to fix are cysts and their way of spreading infestation, which they can't do for whatever reason.

That is very weird. I'm running a 3570k @ 4.3ghz and a gtx460, in ready rooms my fps is 140-200 and ingame 70-130. I have recently upgraded from a c2quad and it was worth it.
Considering i see waiting for gpu > 0ms a lot of the time, you should be getting a lot more fps than me

Na i dont think your CPU is the Bottleneck, its more the GPU at all. You shoulda check the Taskmanager about usage after running it for 2-3 minutes. Gota 7870 OC with 1100clock and its my bottleneck at the game while my FX 6300 is running at max 60% usage on 4 cores - so i dont think its your CPU.

Actually i get about 160-200 FPS in Readyroom also, but only if i turn MSAA/Atmo. off and infection to low. lategame the FPS gets hurt depending on how many players and exos/onos running around.
Early Game i reach about 80 fps, so u might got some worse settings ? dunno. type "Profile" into console to check out the usage of all. and for the CPU just take the taskmanager in the background for some minutes and check if it is running on 100%

%cpu usage you get from monitoring software aren't really reliable, there is no way you can be gpu limited with gtx670

Well ofc there is a way. Others running SLI GTX 670 OC with a 3570K

Are you running 1080p? For reference I get 60FPS at 1440p 80% of the time. And that's with ambient occ off and no atmospherics. This game is a ###### to run.

Same problem here :[ its a shame how bad this game performs on good computers even on bad ones. I have the issues like you do with FPS, though even when the FPS is over 60 lets say 80-100~ in middle game the game is still so laggy and choppy there is no smoothness at all :/ I hope they fix the performance soon.

Yes I am running 1080p, even though my monitor is also 1440p. At 1440 the performance drop isn't huge so I am considering going back to that since it made little difference. I will play a little tonight and see what the CPU/GPU load is at, I believe the game only uses 2 cores ? Ill try and record per core load during play.
