Is there a basic strategy/tutorial guide out anywhere? just picked the game up from steam and hope to learn some basics as I've read there isnt as much of a tutorial in game.
Good on you for coming here and asking. There is one from the main menu, and if you ask in-game people should answer any and all questions. Join a server that is green lettered, they are supposed to be for rookies.
Also, there is Explore Mode which will allow you to practice running around as various alien life forms, see the various tech buildings that grant upgrades and check out the Commander role without ruining a game for others.
cool. did they add the tutorial after release? in the ign review they said it was a little hard to pick up some of the nuances because it was mostly quicktips and no bot training etc...

I'm a learn by doing type of person so I always suggest jumping in head first. You might run into a few asshats but for every one of those 10 will help you, as someone noted, with any questions you have. The easiest way to get into it an find success is find your teammates and stick with them. When in doubt shoot, or bite, it til it dies.

Pretty much.
If you aren't sure of what to do, attacking the opposing team's resources will probably not get you "yelled at" by anyone.
lol thanks guys. looking forward to checking the game out. I love team based shooters like enemy territory and quake wars etc... i promise if any of you see me out there i will be a team player :P
