Is this game good yet?

venekorvenekor Join Date: 2012-12-20 Member: 175655Members
I remember buying it years ago thinking it was coming out soon, must have been like 4 years ago or whenever pre orders first started. I lost interest in it and then it came out as some beta or something but it was really bad and no one ever played which I thought was weird as you'd expect the community to be all over it.

I cannot remember any of the details of where I put the game so I'd have to buy it again and wondering if it is good yet? I didn't like the beta at all, the movement was light and the guns were all floaty and felt so weak and had no kick back or anything to it. The game felt like you had mouse sensitivity on really high but you didn't..

Just wondering if it is as good as the first or if it still sucks?

Guns in NS2 will never have any kickback, just like the guns in NS1 didn't have any kickback. It's not that kind of game. The marine guns are more like Quake than Counterstrike/Call of Duty.

Well that was a waste of money lol.

    - Aliens are weak as ######, you die in 2 seconds, like what is the point?
    - There is no visual indicator to tell you when you're taking damage. Like in normal games the screen goes a funny colour, your camer shakes or you have blood or something on the screen to give you feedback. In NS2 there is none of that, it is like Max Payne 3 where you have this tiny health bar indicator somewhere and that is it.........
    - When you climb up walls the camera doesn't change, it should go on its side or upside down if you're on the ceiling or the walls but it doesn't...
    - The game takes a year to load :\
    - There is no head bob or animation to show you're running, it's like you're gliding or something.

Also why are we looking through the mouth? My eyes are on the top of my ######ing head thanx.

With this and Ace of Spades I'm gonna save my money instead of going crazy on these Steam sales lol.

The guns felt powerful in quake, this game it's like they're all pea shooters.

    So bad.

It's interesting that you think the guns feel like pea shooters but that the aliens are too weak. I wonder how you would fix one of these issues without making the other worse.

No offense chap, but your probably just not very good at the game.

Aliens are op at the moment, winning most of the games on pubs and in competitive play as well. Sounds like you are trying to tank against marines and gettin annoyed that you cant just ground skulk up to them and bite, you have to learn to sneak, ambush, hide, dodge, and gtfo.

"there is no visual indicator of health, except for the visual health indicator!" - LOL Add to this that the screen has "blood" animations around the outside when you are on low hp and the fact that you scream when you are hit.

Game takes a long time to load, pleaser be aware that the first time running ns2 after install, the initial run takes a long time while the game does various "first run" operations. After this, the first time you run the game each day, the first load will also take longer due to precaching of game files on the "first run of the day".

The camera angle doesnt change no, it didnt in ns1, i wouldnt like it to in NS2. They did try it out, apparently it made people feel sick, so it was removed, last i heard that are plans to reintroduce it into ns2 as an in game option.

There isnt a headbob when running, and i wouldnt want one, i cant imagine why you would. Why do you need a visual indication of running?? i mean , you are alrleady moving faster, hearing your footsteps get quicker and louder. and you are pressing the run key so.. surely u have enough to go on to know you are running?

As to the eyes in the mouth - because it looks cool. to me anyway! sorry if u dont like it :)

All in all, i think you are suffering from some learn to play issues.

Be aware that the learning curve for NS2 is harsh, you wont be good at the game right away. If you arent the kind of person who doesnt want to spend time to become good at a game, then ns2 might not be good for you.

    Hope this helps!

Because you're meant to use stealth to get in close and and ambush the Marines. Aliens can Kill Marines in as little as 3 bites

Actually there is the red thing flashes from the direction you were hit also Tiny health bar. really its 100 health + 30 armour on Marines and 70 health and 10 armour on basic aliens

    - turning Cameras give possible motion sickness also by not turning it I find I can target easier.
    - Most likely only on early runs as it has to compile the shaders for each map
    - Most people hate that in games, again motion sickness inducing and really not needed

You look through the mouth as its easier to aim as aliens mouths are their main attack point. Looking through the Eyes would mean trying to position a lower attack point with less indication of where it was

Indeed, try to not run directly at marines, ambush them or attack with teammates at the same time.

There is no visual indicator to tell you when you're taking damage. Like in normal games the screen goes a funny colour, your camer shakes or you have blood or something on

There is, it isn't overly visible but note the red "banana" and the green kharaa blood in the center:

This is still a point of discussion, UWE decided the constant viewpoint changing would induce motion sickness for the average player.
The community has been requesting an option to switch between viewpoint change or not.

Yes, it does take quite a long time to load :(

    - There is no head bob or animation to show you're running, it's like you're gliding or something.
For marines I have noticed weapon swaying (I disabled it through the game options)
For Kharaa it's either running or walking (press shift)

-Also why are we looking through the mouth? My eyes are on the top of my ######ing head thanx.
Immersion, AvP had it as well.
A mod to change this to an onscreen centered bite effect would be a cool idea.

Zaggy you know better than this, that is not the reason.

It's because showing you're biting through a first-person animation is really hard unless the eyes are in the mouth. There's just no other way to really do it.

And its a balancing thing as well, none mouthcam skulks would be just spamming bites in return making it a bit too easy
