Ranks to show player experance.

My suggestion is just a rank system that goes up based on getting experience in game.

I just want something to work towards and i dont care if it does not do anything. I want to have the respect of being a good player.

Each rank has an emblem.

THATS IT, nothing more nothing less.

I really love playing Natural Selection 2, i just want playing it so often to work towards something.

Ranks don't really say anything about being a good player. I've seen players in Tribes Ascend with gold ranks (which implies several hundred hours of gameplay) who still couldn't be bothered to help defending a base, repairing structures or upgrading them and who still got easily outplayed by players with bronze ranks (someone in the first 40 hours of gameplay).
Playtime does nowhere relate to skill. You can be a natural talent at the game and figured it's mechanics inside out within a few hours. And you can also keep playing the game for ages, lose most encounters and get at best carried by your team but still raise in rank.

When I play CoD, I can still melt faces of high-ranked players just a few hours into multiplayer because aiming and tactical awareness is something that carries over from other games and is not exclusive to the particular game.

Ranks are merely an indicator for playtime, but I would never think of someone better or worse based on his rank.

Ranks only show "time played" but I'm still a fan of them...as long as they do not affect gameplay.

I'd like to see something along the lines of different icons and you can pick only one at a time to show on the scoreboard.

    x hours played as marines
    x hours played as aliens
    x wins as marine
    x wins as aliens
    x commanding wins as marine
    x commanding wins as aliens
    x damage dealt
    x repairs
    x heals
    x structures killed
    x kills

It would be nice to be playing and see that your commander has a lot of "win" experience under his belt.

    statistics, this game lacks it.

I really do not like stats, even if they do not unlock anything or mean anything. IMO it just encourages people to stats pad / farm kills / not play the game properly. I wish the K:D was not even on the score board.

While there are already 3rd party stats mods out there, I do think a few built-in simple stats would be worthwhile.

A few weeks ago I posted an idea for a Commander Selection Phase that included some simple stats - number of hours as commander, win/loss ratio.

If Squad controls for the commander were added (and I think they should - so long as they're kept simple), then similar stats for squad leaders should also be included.

I like that you didn't list K:D ratio, because that one will influence how players play by avoiding combat and not supporting certain attacks where all the cannon fodder is needed to make a dent (dieing is part of NS2 :P)

Indeed. As I tell all my friends getting into the game, dying is okay and expected. It's not about KDR and instead about getting the job done, even if that requires you to die. Attacking/Defending RTs for example is dangerous but necessary!

Any stats should promote action, not inaction.
