The AFK problem

I have played today some games and in 2 of them our team lost because to many players were afk. It was a 10 vs 10 game, and 4 of them on our team just standing there as skulk. This gives a team a huge disadvantage. F4 players to read-room if they don't move / mouse-movements from the teams. Others that had this problem on games?

Yes, AFK kicking is something that absolutely needs to be built into the game by default.

As Zek says, AFK *kicking* is important! So frustrating also to find people AFK in the ready room while you've got mates trying to join the server, and your team is down 1 or 2 players. Had that a few times now. Grr!

By which I don't mean AFK - gone to the loo, I mean gone for 20mins or more!

Both mods typically used for AFK kicking can be installed without the server being flagged as modded. Is AFK kicking something that should be built into the game? Yes. Is it something critical? No, because you can easily add support for it yourself.

The reason why aliens go afk is that it is the fastest way to get the resources for a life form to have more fun, regardless of what anyone else on the team does.

Join team. Go afk 5 minutes and do something else. Come back and evolve lerk and have some fun.

OR Join team. Run about as skulk. Die and LOSE RES. Go lerk later.

I see a lot more afk on alien than marine. I wonder why that is?

Removing no res when dead and instituting resources for kills for aliens would go some way to alleviating the problem.

This was added to our Google Moderator list. Sounds like a good thing for us to add to the game (although we're trying to work in priority order):

well...once my PC was on over night and in the morning I saw I was still on a server. that was about 12 hrs later...people were playing happily, too.

    I am sorry for that.

Us over at nationalgaming.org have an AFK auto-kick after 3 minutes while idle in the readyroom. However it does not do the same for players who already joined a team so we just have to handle that manually for the time being. Our server owner works with the adminmod creators with programming. We run 2 22slot servers (2reserved) and normally have atleast 1 admin in our servers.

UGGH afk's are such a pain, they join, then they go away... i had 5 games this week where half my team was afk for 30 mins, and we were 1 down all game. guh.
Why do people join.. if they aren't going to play?!

They'd get kicked eventually. The round ends, they're booted to readyroom, the AFK kicker gets them 3 minutes later.

One thing that might help reducing the number of AFTKs in Ready Room is the game warning that you have joined a server when it's minimized.

Good luck doing that on official servers.

Warm up timer as well please.
  • MuchHigherMuchHigher Join Date: 2012-11-14 Member: 171066Members
I agree the warm up timer should be able to be adjusted. A 20-30second warmup would allow everyone to connect and have some time to join their desired team. Hopefully we will have that adjusted soon on our server if possible.

AFK's in the ready room should be kicked after a certain time too. I'd like 5 or so minutes. Many times I have wanted to jump in to a server with mates but can't due to it being full. Mates in the server tell me the ready room has had several people in it for over 20 mins.

I'll afk a lot in ready room after a game because i need to refresh. I think the longest was like 5 minutes because I had to evacuate certain things....

That's up to the administrators of their servers, then. Our server, Lunixmonster, does have afk kicking enabled. 180 second timeout.
