Things that NS2 Needs

<div class="IPBDescription">And doesn't need</div>Can we please let Bunnyhopping die? Please? Just let it die.... LET IT DIE.
It was never fun in any game ever for the vast majority of people playing that game.
Just stop talking about it!
I'm so tired of people talking about devour, iron sights, auto-building marine structures, bunny hopping, HMG's, leveling, res-per-kill and other such TERRIBLE ideas.

What NS2 really needs:

NS2 needs an in-game match-matching system.
The gameplay of NS2 at its core is astonishingly amazing and deep BUT in general the game needs more bells and whistles.
More graphics options.
An in-game Profile Page that keeps track of wins, losses and other stats.
An in-game demo recorder and replay viewer.
Ranking systems, that do not affect gameplay by giving buffs to players for time/money spent on the game.
Better performance and more fluid animations.
More maps.
All of these things, while they don't directly affect gameplay, are part of what makes a polished game....polished and keeps people more engaged.

Need more maps.
Need more coverage, more players.
Need more tooltips and guide videos.
Need more alien abilities and a fresh take on alien upgrades and tier 3 abilities.
For example: Acid Rocket > Vortex
Ability to bite and parasite while charging Xenocide
Onos needs an upgradeable Bone Shield. Hive 4 Ability? Maybe?
Gorge class needs to be fleshed out more. He's a vital role but not many people seem to understand how good he is in and out of combat.
Need more map balance. Especially on large maps, since aliens become unstoppable once they get their macro game going.
EXO's could use a redesign, simply for aesthetic purposes, I liked the EXO concept art in the art book much better than the current EXO.

As for things that I personally know are coming...
I can't wait for railguns, gorge tunnels and more alien upgrades like the return of a balanced version of feign death or hypermutation or some sort of variant.
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, Performance increases are obviously being worked on all the time. Faster the better! Its probably the complaint I hear the most often.

More efficient coding... I don't know the first thing about coding, but I know this engine is brand new and so is the game. There is always room for improvement.

And with that I say.... CHILL OUT PEOPLE, Its coming, sooner or later.
But the terrible ideas I mentioned in the first paragraph? I'm glad they're gone and you should be too.
There are far more important things to work on than.....DEVOUR or BUNNYHOPPING... seriously people?

I'm willing to bet all my moneys that this is a case of a child not knowing whats good for him/her.
Give the NS2 community bunnyhopping, HMG's, Devour, Iron-sights and etc. And watch as the NS2 community complains even more at how much more broken the game is.
Give a 12 year old a year's supply of candy and junkfood and watch them rot out their teeth, get diabetes, obese and die.
Stop talking about these terrible ideas. Just stop. goddamn

Here's something to think about in regards to this; Segmenting the population will give rise to unique and disparate metas.

Uhhhhh.. I agree with that we need some new spins to the game to keep things fresh, but UWE allready told us these were comming soon, if you look really close you can find out some funny hidden hints as to what these may become.

Other than that, i think a little homage to the old game and players isn't that far-fetched, as much as i love skill in games i prefere it to come from preset built-in mechanics that are neatly finetuned and can be scaleable on the player's skill.
Glancing bites for example is a very good mechanic in my opinion since that just defines your skill.

I'm already pretty amazed at the little difference lag makes in being good at this game, Me being European i always play on american servers just because they talk more like me.
Means i have a 120/160 ping, but the game's great, i'm mostly always in the top with kills or score itself.

There's a pretty big suggestion forum and i believe even something on Google where you can vote and suggest things.
Why not give your new mechanics there a try and see if people share your opinion or not?

I don't think putting up an elitist take on things with your new-school attitude is going to do you much good here.

I don't think thats really an issue here.
Its quite apparent that the vast majority of the NS2 community doesn't want, bunny hopping or devour or other such terrible ideas.
In fact, I would go as far as to say that people who support bunny-hopping support the idea of an elitist microcosm of <i>"pros"</i> who fly around the map ruining the game for everyone else who doesn't want to dedicate countless hours <i>"mastering"</i> a movement exploit.

Stop being inflammatory. You have no idea what the vast majority of NS players want anymore than i do. 3/4 of those players dont post here. Also stop poking "pros" with your dull stick. Get your ideas out there but refrain from making it sound like anyone with the ideas you disagree with is "Stupid", "childish", or just plain ignorant.

I disagree with most of what you said but since you have a loaded post, i know no seriously engaging discussion could result from talking with you. In the end you and i don't matter. Charlie decides and that is that.

    Agree.

A successful game is one that appeals to all skill levels. There is no need to open the skill window up so that the community consists of the 200 players who actually enjoy mastering movement physics.

    Strongly disagree.

One of the things I like most about the game is that public play is anonymous, and how well received you are is entirely based on your skill. You choose a name, join a server and the only thing you got is your knowledge and abilities. No e-peen, achievements or long term KDR to distract you.

You can opt into a league such as ENSL if you wish, but in regard to what I said above, public play is completely fine right now.

I personally don't think matchmaking is very suited for a game like NS2, splitting a relatively small community up even further could hurt it. Usually ends up with people too focused on stats rather then enjoying the game too.

I'm no pro so I don't know their position on bunnyhopping if anyone knows I'd be interested to hear. I already have a hard enough time shooting a good skulk player so one bunnyhopping at insane speed would be a bit iffy.

Before we get into the BHop discussion just know an argument is going on about it in another thread. Simply put, and no one on either side will dispute this, in NS1 BHOP's speed is only gained by a very predictable movement pattern. So it is a clever trade off.

And a new player is incapable of picking up this ability by himself, making it inaccessible and a dud of an idea.

The floor doesn't have to rise just because the ceiling did. The best games have the widest windows.

[edit] ###### your thread, it's now about bhopping, because some people actually have a reason for the claims they make.

Keep it on topic and try not to enrage eachother. Thank you.

Looks like you've got a lot of ideas on how to improve NS2 - great! Now there's existing threads for some of the suggestions you make, I suggest you seek them out and see how they were received before. You've been pointed to the google page as well, use it! If - as you claim - many people agree with you, you'll see your suggestions rise quickly there.

In case you don't know where the google page is: <a href="http://t.co/lTVxB28P" target="_blank">http://t.co/lTVxB28P</a>

I dont think there is an overall solution. The skill levels in game are either quite good or quite poor. Most pub servers I join are usually polar. This wont change and no amount of tweaking will change it. My friends simply couldnt get into NS2 (they werent NS1 players) and have quit due to the skill wall required.

Lack of tutorials to GAME through (even set scripted pieces with bots) meant they had no clue what to do. Played for a few hours then quit. Sure at launch time things were different, more people talked nicely. Nowadays it is the exception rather than the rule. Chat is back to being ###### talk and shouts of noob comm.

I even saw an eject vote, something I hadnt seen yet (and there was nothing wrong either).

I dont have an answer but if things arent careful then it will be circling the drain and back to the high skill level "usual servers" again.
