during the release, we had tones of private-ownded servesr filled up. 2 in taiwan, 1 in china, a few in korea (with those crazy 32 slots), 3 in japan, a few official servers filled up in singapore (and then we have the whoopass) servers and 3 servers in hong kong. i hosted a server for sometime until the demands started to shrink. but by that time we would have a full server until 4:30 a.m. in the morning. thats like at least, well-underestimated, 350 players online at the peak hours

but now where are those no-life asians? perhaps they are just going to sleep 10pm...

i have been a fan for ns1 for 10 years and i would love to introduce the game for them to try at least. but then i dun like to lie either. when i tell them about the performance issues, they hold back on the purchases, even some are old ns1 players who didnt buy the game yet.

perhaps its time to admit, there is something wrong with the game?

On the west coast we're seeing a modest drop off in player hours spent... however, it's somewhat understandable as the Christmas season is a HUGE time commitment for many westerners.

There was some speculation that there was a bug in steam that caused some sort of difficulty in connecting to NS recently, that might also be a potential cause.

Otherwise, you'd know much better than I would what the situation might be. I know a couple asians who have a pretty healthy interest in NS2, but I really don't have a pulse on the community there.

I would suspect, in general, the NS2 price point is VERY steep for the Asian market, which is mostly used to free to play games right now when it comes to competitive first person shooters. (I know counterstrike found it difficult to be successful there without a massive localization and free to play effort)

price is quite steep for some lower-income asian markets. but definintely not places well-developed like japan, taiwan, singapore, hong kong or korea. the price is still like 1/4 of those AAA titles or less than 1/100 of my income. we had the best fibre optics infrastructures and easy access to computer parts. even if the price is expensive, why arent people bought the game staying at all? having 3 servers filled up is a huge drop from having 15 servers filled up 11pm.

Yeah, I'm pretty much just guessing. I know there tends to be a difference in how the Asian markets are handled for first person shooters... but I don't know the details, or whether it helps explain what you're seeing at all.

There seems to be a complete lack of 18-24 player english EU servers atm. Tonne of french and german though but only a select few english speaking. It's so infuriating, I love playing on the bigger servers but the only real good connection servers are a couple of british servers and the rest french (omg are there a lot of french servers) with a side of german :S

What's wrong with the game is quite simply that it's not yet as good as NS 1. And some of the mechanics that made NS 1 a truly amazing game have been stripped from NS 2. Not to mention performance is simply still very poor for a lot of people. From here onwards all will come down to whether they manage to boost performance noticeably and re-implement some of the, or similar, mechanics that made NS 1 a timeless title.

According to ns2stats about 16% of the player population is French, 8% German and only 4% from the UK so no wonder there. Would be nice to have more English servers yes but it's also nice that whenever you get stomped you can just hop on a French server and do some stomping of your own. :p

And here in Canada we have a hard time finding any pubs. Especially for combat servers as most of them are based in europe. American servers are great and all but it sucks to have 150 ping + all the time.

It's fairly good on the west coast. At any given point in time I can usually find a dozen full servers. Slows down during the witching hours of course, but even then there's always choices.

No we don't care, at least not in NZ when the ON3 servers are down, which they currently are.

All probably going BC2, as if there's any room left for advertising in that game hah!
