<sarcasm> Ah, evolution, you took a broken squad idea, put in some fancy colors pictures and buttons, and claimed it as your own.....<sarcasm/> I like! +1!
Also, let marines know what squad they are apart of and where it currently is. Give colour tag to names, maybe even add a distance counter to friendly squad members, make them pop out on the minimap.
How about a quick HUD element that lets you know what squad you're a part of when your commander selects you and adds you to a control group. I tried using that method, to no avail. Everyone split up and ignored what I said for the rest of the round. (We lost, by the way.)
I actually like this idea very much! And maybe add a little info to the map then, assign each squad a colour and have the map tell you which squad has which name by a little square in the respective colour. This would be great :D

So... because you personally don't want a group that doesn't suit you, you would happily deny everyone else who actually do want that opportunity.
You sir, are an insipiration with your fair opinions and just ruling.

Your lack of communication skills is astounding. Because you can't tell your comm that you want to be Rambo, you want to deny the rest of us a valuable tool for coordinated strikes. FYI, being stuck in a group of people who have different styles from you is how the real world works, get used to it.

If you could see who's in your squad like in Battlefield, where they have green names over their head, it would also help keep track of which players you are supposed to hold close to. The squads should also have names instead of just "Group 1 go to Elevator Transfer."

I actually like this idea, gives the marines a buddy system. Also it might cause them to be more responsible, as in if a certain squad is responsibly for going and taking a room or killing a certain harvester or killing upgrades, and it's not happening, you know who to glare at.
I'm surprised how willing people are to work for a certain goal, think the problem is updating goals all the time, and different people shouting out orders or what they think should be done. And of course those people that seem absolutely oblivious to anything that is said to them.

I personally don't think marines need a buff if they are in a group.. really being in a group as a marine is a buff.
<b>@ Husar:</b> Or for example <a href="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e0/FAA_Phonetic_and_Morse_Chart2.svg" target="_blank">this</a>.
They just need to implement special colored names and minimap icons for squad mates. Also, once a commander has assigned a squad, if he gives an order to that squad, the voice over should say "Squad #,..." then whatever the order is. For example, "Squad 3, move to your way point."
The problem with the beta version, is it tried to handle every aspect of squads by itself without giving the comm or players any real control. This led to numerous problems, including people pretty much ignoring squads completely because it seemed there was very little coherence to the system. One moment you would be in a squad, the next you would automatically be kicked from the squad when you weren't close to them; It made it pretty hard to keep squads together and focused.
A system which combines the old auto squad grouping with some minor commander options could help smooth it out. I do like the idea of allowing comms to just tell the system how many squads they want on the field at any given time, and it forming the squads for them. On top of that, I would also like to see the comm have the ability to customize how the squad system operates too by manipulating things like the time it takes before someone is removed from a squad, added to a squad; this would allow comms to customize the squad system based on their comming style and needs.
At the other end, players need a little more notification of how the squad system works, including warnings when they're about to leave a squad, join a new squad, and when they're a dangerous distance from their squad for a long time. Of course, the player will be able to turn off the messages he wants to. They should also be able to override the system and manual join squads if they wish to.
We can put in tons of systems like this but players still won't listen. I think it's a brilliant idea but it's also largely unnecessary. Talking on the mic and using the "follow me" and "let's move" and "covering you" voice emotes usually is all I need to keep my team together (if they have any interest staying together -- we all know the rambos will rambo, regardless). What I'm trying to say is that it would be an awesome idea but why implement it when the only reason we need squads is to incentivize players to stick together, something they can already do if they understand how to play the game 'properly'? (vets should all know you are safer in 2+ groups)

I also think that the game is way too fast paced to really benefit from squads and deaths are too frequent that your squad would be broken most of the time. If the squading is nearly completely automatic and doesn't reguire action from marines themselves then it might work somehow, but don't really see the need.

Please make this happen!

I think it's a bit too organized to make it into the official game, but it's definitely great mod material.

Do you have know why they changed it?
Core binding factor? What's that? :3
