Wow. $25 000 is a lot of money. I actually think that he paid for them.

It is a lot of money. We could probably assume the gifter received 500 for free making it only $12 500 but that's still a lot of money in it's own right.

Edit: Actually my math could be wrong. As I can't rmember how much it was to get a copy that would have a free version included. And it's just conjecture as there may not have been free copies in the give away.

Everyone who bought the game pre steam got a free copy.

Don't forget, that in some countries, there are people who are selling games through sending a gift to other peoples. They work like a shop (digital).
It's pretty common where I do live (Poland), as games are usually much cheaper than they come on steam (sorry, 60 Euros is nowhere near cheap here, actually it's more like a 4 days of work lol).
It's also neat, because not everyone has an access to paypal accounts or Credit Cards, so they can just use simple bank transfers to pay for their keys through that kind of transaction.

Either way, as someone said, maybe he received these copies from other people and gave away in some contests or just sold them as digital products.

I highly doubt he rigged the contest as a way to conduct under-the-counter proxy game purchases in broad daylight. I also find it unlikely that he gathered 1000 free copies from people with spares lying around, though that at least is within the realm of possibility.

Every time I see this stuff it sorta makes me a little sick to my stomach for shelling out 40 bucks for a game that was unplayable for me till the last 3/4 of the beta... meh, it was 3 yrs ago..

*edit* oh yea, i did it for the black armor! =p

    It is called marketing.

If you give 100,000 people a game for free and 3 of their steam friends buy NS2 then that = 300,000 copies sold.
  • SampsonSampson Join Date: 2012-01-06 Member: 139769Members
I know, just kinda sucks. lol but that's marketing...

For 25000 I could buy an airplane. In fact I could buy two.

Yes but that's an very optimistic view.

I was wondering why today all public servers were full of epic Derpyness and Stupid. Was thinking that some very famous counter strike website promoted ns2 or something.

This explains it. Public servers are extremely dumb right now. As in, they are trying to imitate the bad behaviour from people who only played this game for a month, making even newbies look smart.

Sure, but not airplanes that can fly, or perhaps a powered parachute.

For an airplane in flying condition with all the original equipment from 1970 you are looking to spend around $20,000USD.
For a new single engine piston airplane you are talking about a starting point of $150,000USD but $50,000USD will get you a pretty decent used plane.

our club bought a grob powered glider 109 for 25k. Sure it had 3000 hours on the clock but was ideal for training.

And that's before you get into ultralight kits.
