It may be worth checking your video card isn't overheating, the only times I have experienced what people are describing my card was overheating.
I am not saying that temperature is the only reason this could occur but is worth looking at especially if you find that it only happens after you have been playing for a while.
happene to me 2 normally my game crashes between map loading between rounds when the server switches maps but i went three games in a row with no crash i thought yay no more crash issue then as soon as game 4 began

Guys. I believe I have found a temporary fix: goto Options>Graphics and disable texture streaming. The checkerboard problem has went away entirely after I turned this off( it is an experimental feature anyway)
I played for about 2 hours straight today (maybe little bit more). Veil, summit, veil, refinery. When the server switched to refinery I started getting checkerboards again. Console was constantly getting spammed with: Error: Couldn't load 'models/props... When I got close to containment, I had checkerboards instead of infestation and as soon as I started shooting eggs there the game crashed. It only happens if I play for a long period of time without exiting the game though

Sounds like you are running out of video memory. Next time you notice the first slice of these issues run r_stats in the console (~ key) Also when u crash, feel free to immediately run techsupport.exe that comes with the game, it will make a zip file that you can then email to max@unknownworlds.com IF you run NS2 before you run that exe, the log will be erased, so be sure to do it right after.
I just started having this issue in the latest build. Usually only the command menu, although on larger servers I've seen it overtake the 'pop up' info on a team mate I'm looking at. I haven't had a full screen black out, and very rarely see it on the game world or player models.

It's not a beast, but I've had zero problems with anything I've thrown at it. (Outside of Borderlands 2, which is a ###### of a game if you don't own an NVidia with PhysX) Since every NVidia I ever owned died a horrible heat death, I got an ATI that actually came with a heat sink and fan that isn't a joke like some NVidia models I could name.
Runs the game fine at around 40 FPS, and I never had this checkerboard from release until now.

I had the fullscreen texture as well yesterday. going to the menu and back fixed it, but the performance got bad and the game crashed in the end.
