Skulks With Adrenaline

When Parasite Comes into its Own
The other day I was playing on a server as a skulk. The marines had set up a turret factory and turrets outside one of the empty hives in the sewer, and with carapace I decided to make a blind spot at the turret factory by attempting to take out one of the turrets. Originally the idea was to do a few runs to eventually disable the turret factory. Anyway, the story goes like this.

My first run, I take a few nibbles at the turret factory, and I hear someone come in through the phase gate, so I quickly run up to the ceiling and hide above the pipes where they can't see me. The marine is wandering around and I know that I won't be doing much damage if he calls for support, and just as I'm about to go back to the hive to regenerate, my speaker echoes,'New Upgrade Available', its movement. At this point I'm thinking shall I evolve to Lerk and just spike a turret to death.

Problem is, that the resources are coming in pretty slow, and I don't actually have enough to make Lerk, so I go what the heck and upgrade Adrenaline. I begin spamming the turret with parasite, they come quite fast with adrenaline. In my mind I'm working out the damage, I'm thinking every shot is worth 10 dmg, and I don't feel like I'm wasting my team's time.

With the last of my energy, I make a run down towards the depleted turret taking a few shots, and with one bite, the turret is gone!! And I am onto the turret factory..

Well anyways, the moral of the story is to give Adrenaline a go as a skulk, most people won't ever think about upgrading Adrenaline as a skulk. It definitely changes the way you use parasite. Some of you might think, well why don't you just wait to go Lerk? Well if you have 2 hives already, you might prefer to save up to be Fade instead.

I thought parasite only did 10 damage and turrets have 3500 hp (might be mistaking)? that makes for 350 shots, how long were you up there?

10 damage!!?? heh, thats still alot when facing marines... if you can hide in base (Ceiling or something) keep them parasited/dead and keep the Sensor towers down... hmmm

yer, towers have 1000hp or something.. they go down easily. the tf's prolly have 3500hp. parasite spam is awesome, you can camp outside the marine base and parasite each marine 4 times or so before he runs away or kills you. if you're lucky you can take off 50hp, meaning only one skulk bite will take the marine down.
Oh parasite kills are lovely, especially when it's unintentional. You see a marine, oh i'll parasite him! *he dies* oh.. sweet!

that tactic with sitting on the roof parasiting the turret, not bad at all. anyone know how much damage a lerk's spikes do and what their RoF vs the parasite RoF is?
  • ElricElric Join Date: 2002-11-13 Member: 8448Members
RoF is fast and they do 16.

Skulk parasite doesn't even compare to Lerk spikes, if you want spike shooter go Lerk, if you want to be a Skulk and have the ability to stick to ceilings aswell as spam parasite then go skulk! simple.

I always do. Your other option is celerity, which is great because it lets you move faster... but the fastest option of all is leap. With adrenaline, I've had no problem leaping into the middle of a turreted marine base, chomping a marine or two, and leaping several times to get out quickly with minimal damage. Maybe you've had success with this without the adrenaline, but I always found the extra leaps you get is better than moving a bit faster along the ground.

So give it a try, maybe you'll like it.

I generally prefer celerity, since it allows you to move faster than the turrets can track you and circle strafe a turret to open up a blind spot. If you circle a turret and use the tf as a shield against the rest, you can take down the turret, open up a blind spot, then take down the tf all in one skulk life.

100 parasite shots per turret? thats actually not too bad if nobody is around.

I also only use Adrenaline. It gives you extra leaps to get in and out of fights safely, and prevents you from draining your energy chomping buildings.

I stick with adrenaline also. I think every skulk has experienced this: You have no adrenaline, and you see a perfectly good undefended marine rt. But as many of you know, youll run out of energy right around that last or next to last red bar....and then you hear a marine clomping around the corner....

Isnt something wrong here? I thought parasite didnt hurt structures.

It DOES hurt, but since buildings have so much hp(generally), the effect wont be noticeable.
If we START with movement chambers(difference yay), I always go Silence, unless 2nd hive is up(then I expect to get to be fade rather soon, and we all know that adrenaline is damn useful for fades). Sneaking up on marines is sooo much fun... especially when they DONT have the extra armor

I usually go adrenaline simply because when you lag celerity is TOO fast. I remember using celerity, going full blast at a marine, jumping, chomping, and suddenly oh sh** where am I??!! *splat* Adrenaline is a cure for what ails ya, it's really nice for chomp spamming an entire squad of marines

I have tryed adren + leap as skulk and I leaped ramdomly around the marines base ... while fades were atacking and had 2 leap kills in a row LOL ... I had a total of 5 leap kills in that game

Leap is also great to get in that vent @ marine spawn on caged (if its welded on the other side) ... then you go fade and get regen and you kill them and the buildings

I had adrenaline and leap one game, and just to see if leap could severely damage structures, I leaped around a turret farm for what seemed like ages. Eventually got killed, didn't know what damage I actually caused, oh well, so much for experimentation.

FYI, parasite does not do 16 pts of damage. That's silly. more like 6.

Huh, who said it did 16 dmg? The Lerk does 16 dmg with the spike shooter, Skulks do 10 dmg with parasite.
