Unable to play the game! :(

I really enjoy the game and would like to play as soon as possible. Since the new patch, I have been having many problems trying to play.

I can open the game and go through all the options but once I Play, the server browser is empty but I know there is a lot of problems with the browser. So I clicked on a friend and tried to join his game, I get kicked out and it says "couldn't establish a connection with the server'. I click ok and try to exit but the NS2.EXE process will not end task, not can I end the process. I downloaded process explorer to try and end it that way but that doesn't work either.

I've reinstalled all video graphic drivers. Everything in the known errors topic. Did numerous integrity checks.
I was able to get it working yesterday somehow but today I'm getting the same problem. I just want to play ^^

    Don't know what the problem is, but in the previous patch (228) I was getting "couldn't establish the connection with the server" when I tried to join any UWE official servers. However, I could join any other server, just not the official ones. Maybe you can still join any other server (like I could) if your friend is playing on those ones.

    Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I tried joining my friend's private server but that's when I get the "couldn't establish the connection with the server" error. If I try using the server browser, it's just empty. If I click quick join, the game freezes and I can't even end task to NS2.exe. I must restart my pc each time.

    Do you have a firewall somewhere? What antivirus are you running?

    I use ESET Smart Security. NS2 has been approved for Outbound connections. I have it set as interactive so when a connection to the intenret is made, I decide to give access, deny access or temp access.

    I'm testing with it set as In and Out direction.

    Can you start your own server, if that also says "couldn't establish the connection with the server" there is indeed an issue with a connection to the Steam Authentication servers. What has me puzzled is this bit:

    Which would indicate there is something missing from your "%appdata%\Natural Selection 2" folder or the Steam cloud settings...

    Do you have a system_options.xml in the appdata folder and an options.xml in "\Steam\userdata\>your user ID<\4920\remote"

    Gah so now it decides to work again.

    What I've noticed is that now I received a prompt from ESET that ns2 file was altered and to allow the new file. I clicked allow and so far I've been able to get into servers.

    I did fix this problem yesterday but got it again today. I hope it doesnt return tomorrow!


    And I did try to create my own server but still got the error. I don't know why I didn't get the prompt to allow the new exe till now..strange thing

    I have the same problem but it comes in spurts. I will turn the game on go to server list and nothing comes up. Update....Update....Update....wtf! Turn off the game turn it back on and usually all the servers or back. I'd say at least once a day this issue comes up.
