<div class="IPBDescription">My new map ...I have trouble with names.</div> My other map is on hiatus. It's sick. It needs sleep.
The new one is going much more smoothly. I'm making yet another new texture set for it, too, which so far is going smoothly as well.
The scenario:
Corian III is a huge rocky planet with a deep gaseus atmosphere scorched by the Corian system's bright star. Corian III has several moons. One moon is slightly smaller than Earth, and barren and rocky, with a thin but very dusty Nitrogen-filled atmosphere. The map is set on this moon.
The TSA built an important subspace signal relay station on that moon. The signal relay is essential for communications and navigation in that region of the Ariadne Arm. However, there was a strong Kharaa presence in the region of the Corian system, so it was fortified, built to be impenetrable, and blanketed with security measures. Only small shuttles were allowed onto the planet, and they were thuroughly scanned for foreign life-forms.
However, the fortifications and precautions proved ineffective in the face of the insidious Kharaa, and the base was overrun. The Marines are now struggling to retake the relay station or face being blind and deaf in the dark reaches of the sector.
---
I'm going to write some huge artsy-fartsy sortline to go with the map, heh. I like big storylines.
This map is intended to be a little cleaner and brighter than my last one (clean and bright like Eclipse, say) and also includes some COOL SHIAT... some 'innovations' lets say. I'm going to keep you in the dark about what precisely might appear in the map, so if I actually pull it off, you'll be surprised and amazed! Astounded! Stupefied! ...yeah.
So, what do you think? I'll get some screenies up ASAP. And how about the name? I like ns_signal... its easier to remember than some space-name. I'm just not sure if it sounds 'cool' enough. Signal, or Corian?

Comments
ns_corian it is.
EDIT: and yeah! super high comm-towers ofcourse. as the skymap and as brushes.
The architecture isn't really chunky, but it is metal. Its not really dirty or rusty (in the non-infested areas), as the place is rather new. There will be rocky underground areas with cables running along the walls and cieling, too. As for huge cannons pointing at the sky, I was actually thinking about it (read my mind, you did!). I'm not sure if I'm gonna throw them in (cannons would be difficult to map and to texture). Really, the Corian moon's heavy defenses may have been mostly orbital and ship-based.
As for comm-towers, there are 3 (none on the skymap, the skymap I always reserve for just one thing: sky). The 3 subspace arrays are: Ganymede Array, Andromeda Array and Neptune Array. The Andromeda Array is a huge dish, and is a Hive Location. The Ganymede Array is smaller, and is just a landmark a little way's away from MS. As for the Neptune Array, I'm not sure.
looks like the ion cannon used by the rebels at "Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back" <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
I like Star Wars, so like this <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
What a coincidence!
HOWEVER, I should have some screenies of the Marine Start of ns_arcarna (based on the Corian textures) really soon. They're, IMO, gonna be frikkin' NIFTY!
As for ns_corian, it's a lot bigger/more complex and thus needs a lot more textures and brushwork before I decide to put up some lookies.
For those of you that think I'm stupid for working on two maps at once, you're absolutely right. Oh well. Currently ns_arcarna is going faster and getting more worked-on because it's simpler in design and easier. The first map I started is still in hibernation.
Lalalala.
i think was Blazeeer (de_morningstar) that told me that when out of inspiration is a good thing to try merge all the ideas in a unique map, instead of starting a new one.
or u can go to something completely different theme, like suggested daveJ in another interview.
As for Corian and Arcarna... hmm... if I find Corian's ideas too hard to implement, and I'm short an idea or two in Arcarna... merging ideas might be a good idea! Thanks!
