NS2 Literally Disconnects Me From the Internet

I know this sounds silly, but if I fail at joining a server the first time(usually a really low ping UWE server, and it doesn't tell me the server is full), I'll try refreshing the game list. I try another server, sometimes the same thing happens, so I go back and refresh again. Around the third time maybe, I get considerably less results for some reason, and the lower ping ones are gone(30-40~ish to 50+). I refresh again to see if more will pop up, then nothing comes up. Even worse, for some reason my internet in its entirety will slow to a crawl or completely disconnect for 5 minutes, as if I'm being throttled by my ISP thinking I'm doing something I'm not supposed to be doing or something. This is the only game that has done this so far, and it's been pretty consistent.
Obviously the recreation of this is slightly different each time, it's not exactly the same way each time, but it revolves around not being able to get into a low ping UWE server(that I've noticed anyway) at 15/16 players once or twice, and then things kind of snowball from there. Am I the only one this happens to? I'm from Toronto and I'm on Rogers High-Speed if anyone around me has Rogers also and can attest/deny this.

Steam might be flooding your modem with UDP packets; there is a launch option that lets you run Steam in TCP mode.

If I don't use this option (-tcp) then on bad days my modem / router will reset.
game launches ok, go to server browser and it shows only servers with ping over 200 (that's rather high)
Two options after the 1st server list showings:
1) I refresh again.
if I do so, the list won't give me any servers at all and will put my internet connection into "limited (no internet connection)" for 2-5 minutes. That means not only in-game, but browsers and other interntet-reliable programs on the computer. (the funny thing is wifi and other computers plugged into the router won't be affected).
2) I try to connect to any server that has free slots.
Then I get "Could not establish connection" tab, get tossed back to the title screen and then I go to the server list which won't give me any servers aaaand... my internet goes into limited again.
Yesterday was well (only bought it yesterday anyways), played ok
Started this morning, somehow managed to get onto a server with the 4th try (on server list ping was around 500, ingame ping was 60)
Then again now, spent an hour or two trying and gave up.
waiting - internet comes back. restarting steam is needed to get another try at server list. veryfing cache did not help. reinstalling game did not help. restarting pc or router did not help. the -tcp option written before did not help.
Any help? :S

Thanks for the tip, can anyone confirm if this works for them please, if so I will include it in the sticky.
Reducing cloudsync from auto to 500, as offered in one of the topics helped for one go, but when I tried switching to other server, the problem came back
I picked:
UWE Official NA-East #68 - All Official 16p at 15/16 in ns2_tram
UWE Official NA-East #04 - All Official 16p at 15/16 in ns2_mineshaft
Btw, switching off firewall or AntiVirus did not help as well
Sometimes it happens, sometimes not.
This morning I found only 5 to 10 servers. I wasn't able to connect to most of them (#UWE 68, 15 and 30 if I'm correct) , and the phew I got into were giving me 500+ ping half the time (UWE only; 50-75 for 2-3 minutes, than 500-999 for 2-3 minutes, than 50-75 for 2-3 minutes [...]). And sometimes I get all the servers and most work correctly (but it seems there is always some UWE official that I'm not able to join).
I do not have this problem with Source game, meaning I guess it is a master server problem.
Btw I always have filters like ~90 performance and ~75 pings (for this post's test environment).
Also, it was the first day that I got so phew servers right when starting (Its usually after my game crash, or while playing and stopping to play for a few minutes/hours).
try this, helped me a bit, but did not fully solve the problem:
go to steam settings, "Downloads + Cloud" tab, "Game Server browser: max pings / minute" option. Set it to 500 if you have automatic on

I've a Zyxel router too (different model, but they might share similar menus/functionality .. check fix for mine in the thread above) and fixed all these network issues ;)
