Frame Rate Issue - PLEASE FIX

Currently I'm running an MSI GE70 gaming laptop.

I have NS2 turned down to the ABSOLUTE LOWEST SETTINGS and am still getting video lag.

Here is a taste of what I'm running:

Windows 7 64 bit
2 Gig video card
8 Mag RAM
750 Gig Hard drive @7200 RPM
17.3 in screen
Core i7 processor

With all this, the system is still laggy as hell. In order to get a decent frame rate, I have to turn it down to ultra low resolution with ultra low settings. Needless to say it looks like total crap and I really do not like this at all.

I've heard a number of people in game complaining about the exact same thing so it's not just me. I don't think the graphics engine in this game is very finely tuned for certain systems. And this system is brand new, I literally purchased it last week and it can play Skyrim on ultra high settings with decent FPS so I see no reason I shouldn't be able to do the same with this game.

Please let me know if there is any way to fix this or perhaps release some graphical improvements and streamlining in the next patch.

What type of i7 and what clock speed does it have?
    Pretty vague specs there.

*Edit: Did some research and the CPU is at 2.6ghz
This is plain and simple not fast enough for NS2.
There are people over clocking their CPUs to 4ghz and above to get this game running great.

Just a fact of laptops sadly.

    Those are my exact specs.

Currently downloading the latest video drivers to see if that will fix the glitch.

Drivers are officially 100 percent up to date and no changes :(

    Could really use some help.

I think this might be a developer issue or a conflict with my current video card or settings somehow. It makes no sense how I can be playing a crazy game of TF2 or Skyrim at 50 or 60 FPS then it drops down to 20 as soon as I load NS2.

    AAAAAARGHHHH

So you're telling me I can play Skyrim on high settings full screen with decent frame rate which, in all honesty, is a more graphically impressive game than NS2 but I can only get NS2 to 30 FPS TOPS even on low res and low settings?

I think that's more of a software issue than a hardware issue. If other people are having similar problems and you need a ridiculously good system just to run at decent FPS, many people will end up not playing the game specifically because of this.

I wish they'd address this and release some graphical improvements of some sort.

It doesn't work like that. CPU power is what is needed to run NS2 properly not graphics, as a matter of fact the graphics engine is very fast, it is the game code that is written in lua that requires a hefty CPU. Currently around 3.0Ghz is the minimum where you will see improvements with 2.6Ghz being the bare minimum. Compared to a few builds ago performance has gone up though...

It is essentially an game code thing at the moment, but there is nothing that can really be done for you other than crossing your fingers and hoping for optimisation patches.

And as kouji stated performance has increased since previous builds.

Personally I wouldn't buy a game if my specs were sitting on minimum requirements.

Look at the rig in my signature, and trust me man, I feel for you. I have to turn down all options to low to maintain 40-50-FPS once the action gets going, and in REAL intense fights...28-35FPS.

Why are you posting in every performance thread? Why is your performance getting worse every time you post? And why is it worse than mine with essentially the same hardware with higher clocks?

@OP: Make sure your game runs on your dedicated graphics card instead of your integrated one. Set up a profile for NS2.exe in your NVidia control panel like this: <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=117259&view=findpost&p=1974106" target="_blank">http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/in...t&p=1974106</a>

Laptop specs are fine for running NS2. I suspect that your laptop is not using the GTX 660M for NS2 (it doesn't automatically recognize it since the game has only recently been released). Go into Optimus and set NS2 to using the dedicated GPU like shown below:

    ^^

Woah, well PassMark gives his CPU a rating of 8355. That's nearly double what I have. The Core2 Duo 3.0 CPU is around 2000. I think your definitely limited by your GPHX card and not your CPU. When you look at r_stats in the console how much time are you waiting on your render from your graphics card? It should give you a value in ms. If you have anything above 3-5 ms then you know that your problem is on your render rate and not your CPU.
