I downloaded NS2 a couple of days ago and was playing just fine until recently when I quit playing for awhile and then tried to get back into the game and my UAC (User Account Control) popped up telling me that the NS2.exe file wishes to make changes to my computer through an uknown publisher. If I clicked yes it flashes black and tells me Cannot Render Device and then goes back to the steam library. If I click no it just tells me I cannot play the game. I found this log after hours of searching I will post it below.
I have tried reinstalling the game several times even going as far as searching for ns2 files in my harddrive and deleting them even after I used to control panel to delete ns2 from my computer. I also verified the integrity of the cache several times usually one file will be reaquired after I have attempted to get into the game with the error from above but still nothing works.
I am not very computer savvy so any detailed help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!!

1. Make sure you're running on dedicated videocard before starting the game.
2. Update (or downgrade) the videodriver (nvidia.com).
3. Try reinstalling DirectX by running DXSETUP.exe in ...\Steam\SteamApps\common\Natural Selection 2\redist\DirectX\
Ensure its an allowed program then I recommend disabling uac forever.. Most useless feature in windows ever created.
also, post your dxdiag. (see stickied posts for instructions)
I can't agree with that.
I've disabled it since day one of vista (shutters) and never once regretted it.
<b>ThrillingHero</b>, try to use other driver versions: 310.33beta or 301.42 or 296.10 or driver from the Vendor's site.
make sure to try previous versions like metroid says, I recommend sticking to whql certified versions.
Also make sure when installing to check that box that says something like "clean install" - whichever one that says it removes all instances of previous versions.
Also, does device manager show any yellow errors?
Attach or post a DXDIAG information log file, this provides UWE with your system specs, driver and OS info:
Click on your Windows Desktop Start menu.
In winXP you want to find "RUN", in Vista/7 you want the search bar at the bottom of the menu.
Type in DXDIAG and hit Enter
A window pops up, Either a Diagnostic will auto run or you need to click on a button: Run DxDiag now ~something similar to that.
When the progress bar is done, Click on the "Save All Information" button, you can either copy paste it to the forums or post it into a website such as <a href="http://www.pastebin.com" target="_blank">http://www.pastebin.com</a> and post the link here on the forums.
Here you go IronHorse and thanks so much I dont know what any of that means but thank you for all the help so far and hopefully this helps with this problem!!
Uninstall current driver from Windows Control Panel, then try those (always use Clean Install):
Latest beta drivers, try them first: <a href="http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/310.33/310.33-notebook-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-international-beta.exe" target="_blank">310.33 beta</a>
Previous generation driver WHQL: <a href="http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/296.10/296.10-notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-international-whql.exe" target="_blank">296.10 WHQL</a>
First version from the new generation: <a href="http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/301.42/301.42-notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-international-whql.exe" target="_blank">301.42 WHQL</a>
Maybe there is some sort of setting in the Alienware software or driver software that Intel graphics is set into the priority, that prevents NS2 to access dedicated Geforce 460M, I can't say for sure because I don't have the notebook.
