Can't see servers after failing to connect to a server

<div class="IPBDescription">This is preventing me from playing the game</div>If I happen to try joining a server that is close to full, like 19/24 or whatever and it ends up being full by the time I join, I get told that it's full. That's fine, but whenever that happens, I can no longer see any servers... waiting a long time only one or two random ones show up. Closing the game and restarting it doesn't fix it. I have to wait 15 minutes or so before I can even get a chance to join servers again.

I'm not spamming refresh... I'm just failing to join a server because it's full.

Why does it do this?

EDIT: and you can only refresh the servers once before the next time causes the same thing.

This is completely frustrating.

I also have a lot of problems refreshing the server list. All steam ports forwarded etc.

I'm having the exact same problem as OP.

    It's really frustrating!

There seems to be a bunch of people this is happening to. I hope they fix it soon.

When the in game browser doesn't work, you can try this web based one :<a href="http://hypernovadesign.co.uk/nanogrid/" target="_blank">Nanogrid - web based NS2 server browser</a>

Of course, that site also freezes up while it populates the list as well. You have to give it a minute or three.

Its a problem linking with steam cloud. Exit game wait a few then try again and it works, not sure of how to fix the problem though.

I just attempted to reproduce this bug 3 times with GISP, with no dice for either of us - the server list refreshed just fine.

Steam cloud is enabled and working just fine tho for me.
Still curious if your router is a thompson..

happens to me on occasion and upon exiting the game it says there is a problem linking to steam cloud. Im at work atm but my router is the one they give you for shaw broadband 50. so whatever brand they use, not sure. I can get you an answer in 6 hours.

I will try to reproduce this when i get home.

Sounds like your router is giving up due to high pressure or something.

There is a setting in the settings tab in steam under downloads+cloud tab that you can specify "game server browser: max pings/minute"

Might it has something to do with this :o

    Could try lowering it :)

The router is a Cisco, when loading the game the server list came up fine, I joined a server 15/16 then it didn't connect with the dialogue box saying "Couldn't establish a connection with the server", so you hit the back button to the server list and nothing is listed, refresh doesn't do anything to bring back the list. so I exit the game. I see that the steam icon on the task bar is synchronizing now. If I try to start the game without letting it finish synchronizing I get the dialogue box that says "Steam - Warning Steam was unable to sync your files of Natural Selection 2 with the steam cloud".

I then proceed to verify integrity of game files then play again. And list shows again.

Check the mod forum for an external server browser..its labeled with [app] in front...so much better than default browser

Having the same problem right now. Server list was working fine once I connected to a server received the great error, "can't establish connection" now server list is blank refresh doesn't do anything. Now it is a waiting game to see when the server list will show up again. I don't think it has nothing to with your router. Seems like they have timeout on refreshing the server list that blocks you for refreshing to many times. This is needs to be fixed cause it is beyond annoying.

I notice when I exit the game NS2 my steam icon had a download icon I hoover over it and it said "synchronizing" now I re-open NS2 server list works. Please fix this issue something is going out of sync when it shouldn't be.

I've got a Netgear Rangemax wndr-3300 router, so it isn't specific to one brand of router.

I've also noticed the steam cloud sync thing and tried disabling sync but it didn't fix the issue.

Tried lowering the max pings in steam settings and none of the options fix the issue either.

I've verified game files, and tried re downloading the clientregistry.blob steam file.

I think Mango is right on this:
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->I don't think it has nothing to with your router. Only it's blocking us out after only 1 or 2 refreshes. I need to exit the game and wait what seems like 5-10 minutes before I'll get 1 or 2 shots at connecting to a server again and then the list disappears again.

And yes, this happens everytime I try to play the game. Once in a while I'll get lucky and connect to a server in the first attempt, but a majority of the time, I use up a large chunk of what little gaming time I have these days just trying to get connected to a server. It pretty much means hopping on for a round here or there is out the window.

    Please fix this.

I have some problems too, my server list is simply not refreshing and I have no idea what's causing this.
Every other game works just fine, it's only the case of Natural Selection 2.

I have also had the problem and it happens every single time but only when I try to connect to an UWE server. I can connect fine with Jest, all-in, inv or any 3rd party server.

I also get this and I stop trying to play!

I am surprised you are not aware of this Ironhorse, this is DEFINITELY an issue for a lot of people.

Start up NS2, try to connect, server full, can't refresh servers.

Restart Steam, go back into NS2. Usually it refreshes, sometimes not.

Restarting Steam or NS2 sometimes works.. other times not.

    ISP provided router, Netgear.

I get this problem every time myself. I'm using a crosshair mod, which is what I attributed it to when trying to join Official servers since I haven't had this problem on independently run servers at all.

When it occurs, I find that hitting the refresh button a few times and giving it a minute or three will get it to bring up the list again. It's also possible this has something to do with the red-disconnect/crash issue.

If you're running XP 32-bit, NS2 has a gigantic memory leak as well that eventually crashes the game to desktop. 228 is supposed to fix both of these issues, and I hope it does since NS2 crashing when you're commander can be extra frustrating.

It's not specific to even having a router.

I often have this issue. Or a "refresh brings up 8 servers, none of which I can connect to, ever" issue. Or no servers at all.

A Steam restart usually resolves the problem.

Windows 7, no router, no firewall, stable internet connection.

I also get this. Usually happens if I fail to connect to a server a few times in a row and sometimes if I refresh the server list twice within a minute or so. Also I've noticed its not only the server list that stops working. I will be unable to even start an exploration mode server of my own as it fails on authentication, I will not be able to access any steam services and I will not be able to access any websites with my browser. Programs with existing connections like mIRC and teamspeak will keep functioning normally, but it seems like something gets jammed up and I will be unable to start new connections until its resolved. It does solve itself within 10 minutes usually. Its just a matter of waiting it out since restarting the game does nothing.

My router is a Thomson TCW770.

Ok, that definitely sounds like an issue outside of Natural Selection 2 and more of a problem with Steam sync or your router. I've been having issues with the Steam Cloud for a couple of weeks now, most notably with Borderlands 2 sync. I have to wonder if Valve is screwing the pooch lately.

The thing is the only game that causes this is ns2. I play plenty of other games on steam and have no issues with any of them.

Actually I think it's an issue related specifically to NS2 and Steam Sync, if that's possible?

I usually have a sync error/failure/hangup/warning/alert, whatever at some point following this. Not all the time, but enough for me to comfortably relate the two.

Haha yeah this happened to me last night, i was an authetication error. then all servers vanished from the list. i had to restart the game, that was certainly interesting and annoying.

Atleast NS2 starts up fast, and doesnt have 10 stupid splash screen which you cant skip :P

Same deal here. Usually happens when I fail to join a server twice in a row. The server list will just stop populating, and it actually causes webpages in Firefox and IE to hang while trying to load them and ultimately fail at loading until the sync issue clears itself up. My internet service doesn't get interrupted, I stay fully connected to my ISP, things just stop loading...

After a minute or two it clears up and I can browse the internet perfectly fine, like usual, and the server browser in game works again, until I fail to connect to some servers again.

It's frustrating to say the least.
