I have done this, this stops my router from being inundated after a few refreshes of the server list and losing all internet connectivity, thus server list goes blank. But it doesnt stop the underlying problem with the netcode

But I hear that should be fixed in 229 (related to red plug of doom)

The problems (for me) are: 1 when joining a server the error "couldnt establish a connection with the server" appears.
2 after that, the server list is empty.
3 the empty list can only be "fixed" by pulling the internet cable out - and put it in again.

Lowering the maxpings/minute setting in steam greatly lowers the chances of 1 and 2 happening (while the servers need more time to show up in the browser) - but nevertheless 1 and 2 still happen from time to time - AND 3 happens at least every second time i hit refresh!

What kind of badly programmed script can actually "disable" the whole internetconnection of a user?
NS2 devs appear to know (at least subconsciously)! :D<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

The problem is that something in the netcode is buggy and is sending requests to your router at a insane rate, the router gets confused and basically times out. Launching windows troubleshooter will fix the issue after closing steam. 229 will hopefully resolve this issue as they have some netcode fixes that fixes the majority of these issues. (lag spikes, red plug of doom, server list crashing your router, etc)

I also posted earlier that the 'lowering browser ping to 500 in steam settings' worked for me. But I still regularly get -'Could not establish a connection to the server" or "authentication failed".

Can connect probably 3 out of 10 tries. It is bearable, just.

lowering the ping to 1000 or 500 seems to pull up servers more regularly now but i am still more often than not unable to join a server.

i have the connecting problem too

i've started using the console command to join servers after the serverlist fails

open server list double click server you want to join when it fails the ip will be in console
hit `(or whatever your console key is) type connect "IP OF WHATEVER SERVER FAILED" do this 2 times at most if it fails both times through console your not getting into that one so move onto another

i'd say i'm getting into 7/10 compared to the 0/10 i was getting into through serverlist

hopefully this helps some ppl :)

Sorry to say, the latest build 229 still doesnt fix the "breaking down the whole internet connection exept for NS2 problem" after browsing the serverlist.

The only working change seems to be, that the serverlist needs about 2-4 Minutes to load.

(last topic I add this to .. I just did a search for Zyxel when I found my solution)

Not sure if you're still experiencing this .. but

    <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=124418&view=findpost&p=2030711" target="_blank">http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/in...t&p=2030711</a>

I've a Zyxel router too (different model, but they might share similar menus/functionality .. check fix for mine in the thread above) and fixed all these network issues ;)

I fixed the thing where it knocks my internet connection out by removing IP Flood protection under IPS filters in my router.
