Automatic Squad Management

The idea is every four players is grouped into a squad, except the commander. Each squad is labeled in the greek alphabet or the Nato alphabet (alpha, beta, gamma or alfa, bravo, charlie) and the player has the letter next to their name in-game and in the scoreboard. On the left side of the commander HUD are the squad letters and when clicked each member of that squad is selected.

Hopefully this will encourage and simplify tactical gameplay, it'll be easy to say "Alpha, push into Warehouse and Beta flank Warehouse from the left."

    That would work except that competitive matches are 6v6 are they not? Leaving you with a 1 man squad and a squad.

    I like the idea of having squads an optional feature that players can choose to create/join. When a squad is created it automatically shows up on the commanders screen and is assigned the next unused hot-key.

    Perhaps 3 per squad would be better, you would have a 3 man squad and a 2 man squad. You could make it a bit smarter on how many players it assigns to a squad based on how many players there are, but I think it should be automatic and the commander shouldn't have to worry about squad management.

    For example:

    2-5 players - no squads.
    6 players - 3 & 2
    7 players - 3 & 3
    8 players - 4 & 3
    9 players - 4 & 4
    10 players - 3 & 3 & 3

    How about no limit per squad and squads are user created? It can be done before the game starts when the players are busy joining. This gives the most flexibility since now squad sizes can be anything. In a 8v8 a squad of 2 can be the builders and the other 5 can be the pushers (marine side), stuff like that.

    I doubt it'll effect the comp scene since the teams know each other so well that they don't really need it but for pubs it could be nice to organise it a bit more.

    What happens when players join a few minutes into the game? Perhaps there should be an toggle in settings for it to be user created or automatic, not sure how the GUI would work for user controlled squads though.
