Not starting at all on XP x64

Hiho,

as the topic title says, NS2 won't run on my 64 bit XP machine. The beta builds worked fine for me in the past (although I did run it on XP 32 bit to be frank).

There's no log file and no error message when run from Steam, though when I try to run it from the steam folder directly, I get a "Failed to initialize properly" error. I also tried reinstalling DirectX, updating my driver, updating the PhysX component separately and reinstalling the MSVC redistributable package.

Here's my dxdiag: http://pastebin.com/H5kF67VM

Bump. I checked the integrity of my local installation as well. Do I really have to move to Win 7 to play this. I suppose there isn't a Linux port on the way either way.

I remember that Spark was compatible for Linux & OSX but since they planned NS2 to be released on Steam, I don't know what happened :P

Since Steam is also on Linux now.

Well, their low-level stuff is written for Windows with DirectX, which means that there's a sizeable amount of code that would have to be ported. Apart from that Spark seems to use Fmod, which does have both a OSX and Linux port, so less messy trouble there, and LUA. I'm not quite sure about the PhysX/CUDA stuff, though (by looking at the dll's).

Right, on-topic again: Does anybody know why it might not run or does anybody even have it running on XP 64 bit?
