Lower Entity Count?

Hi all, bit of a noob question here. I'm seeing a direct correlation in my server's performance between tickrate and entity count. I'm currently running at 16 slots. I have seen other servers running at a higher slot count and tickrate remaining somewhat high, or at least at a playable level (my own server is dropping to as low as 10 sometimes). Does anyone have any advice on how I might lower the entity count, or rather how other servers are achieving this?

As far as I know other servers keep up tickrate by throwing cutting edge hardware at it. What are your server specs?

The appropriate server to host the game with a slot count higher than 16 and a full tick rate is a sandy bridge or ivy bridge overclocked to about 4.4 GHz.

Yes, at your 16 player, you should be running a 3.4 GHz or higher Ivy or Sandy.
