<div class="IPBDescription">Doesn't make the player, but it helps</div>So I'm just wondering what people are using and what people think is best for playing. I'm not talking about internal hardware like video cards, cpus, and ram although a higher fps doesn't hurt. But things like mice, keyboards, and monitors can be pretty useful too. I personally prefer my razer naga 2012 mouse, and my G19 keyboard. What do you all prefer?

In NS2, twitch skills takes a backseat to tactics+strategy, and how well your machine is able to keep a high fps consistently, IMO.

So a generic mouse and KB, with a great rig is all dandy.

A peripheral that does might make a difference is a good headset with a nice, clear mic in it. Teamplay galore

Haven't bothered with a new monitor and keyboard in ages, but for mice I can tell you there is a real difference between standart and a quality gaming mouse. I for my part have had very good experiences with Logitech, namely the G400, which is not as expensive as comparable mice, has good ergonomics and very good precision and accuracy. I've also come to enjoy my sharkoon mousepad, mostly because it's comfy.
Also: headphones and soundcard! If you have some money to spend, get a good headphone (I prefer them over overpriced headsets, that mostly sound crap for playing music), a mic and a soundcard. If you're a cheapskate like me I can recommend the Superlux HD 668B headphones (PHENOMENAL quality for 30€) and a Xonar DG 5.1 soundcard. With the added virtual surround it also gives you an edge over standart equipment.

personally, i've just gotta say that unless you're using a stodgy turd as a mouse, then getting >60 fps is waaaay more desirable.

even if you only have a 60hz monitor, a higher framerate can help to give a much more responsive and consistent mouse movement.

i'm using a logitech mx518, it's not too fancy but it's a solid mouse. it's a safe option as it's pretty cheap and you're not at risk of buying some of that over-marketed tat like razer (i liked my razer diamondback but it started having problems after a few months of usage with buttons disintegrating and then just died - my mx518 has been flawless for years, and my 8-year-old mx510 is still working on my parents computer to this day).

under my mx518 i'm using an everglide titan mat - mainly because of the large size.

i have a 120hz monitor too, but it's totally useless right now because only get 62fps maximum in the game menu :D

As people have been saying, its the internal, rather than external, hardware that matters the most. Besides that, I think the order of importance would be
    - Mouse (fancy features are less important than something you find comfortable in using for quick reflex/twitch style shooting)
    - Headset (mic is a necessity for anything more than casual play and good sound can give you quick an edge with tracking)
    - Keyboard (once again comfort and functionality are the most important details. I find the cheap $2 Dell keyboards I get from University surplus to be more than adequate for competitive play).
