Compatibility with Windows 8

When I had Windows 7 on my machine I was able to clock 11 hours in Natural Selection 2 without any issues. However, I have just recently installed Windows 8 and cannot seem to get Natural Selection to start. When I load the program it simply goes to a black screen instantly and stays there until I alt-tab out to the bug report screen behind it. Of the 20 or 30 times I have tried starting the game it did actually work once though I am not sure what made it work or why. I have tried compatibility mode with various version of Windows, tried run as administrator on both steam and the actual game executable itself, and verified the game using steam. Of all the games I have on my machine this is the only one having issues with Windows 8. Other games tested include Skyrim, Battlefield 3, and good old Minecraft; all of which work with no issues.

System specs are:
E6700 overclocked to 3.25
4 GB of RAM
EVGA 9800 GTX+
2 x Velociraptors in RAID 0

I know this system is old however as I mentioned the game worked flawlessly in Windows 7.

Is anyone else having issues with NS2 and Windows 8?

Ns2 is currently having difficulty with windows 8.
Any minidumps or errors you could provide would be very helpful.
    Thanks

This is all there is in the log.txt file. As for the minidump I am unsure of how to read this file because I cannot find where NS2 puts it.

Just tried re-installing the game as well and that did not resolve the issue.

As I have said I am unsure of how to read a minidump file or where NS2 actually dumps it (hint: not in C:/Window/minidump). Otherwise there is no useful information provided by the bug report screen, it just allows me to enter my email and a comment, which I have done, and submit the bug. When I get home from work I will screenshot and post it here.

Just tried the game again today and it is now working with the last change I made being the re-install. I am unsure of why it is working now because I re-installed it yesterday and it still wouldn't work, was there a patch today or something? Anyway I will post if the issue crops up again...

For future reference, you should not change operating systems keeping any software. I never had that issue on windows 8 and I played from launch.

This was a clean install actually. I use a secondary redundant RAID to store my important files and always completely wipe the system drive when installing new operating systems. For future searches that land on this page, I did get this problem with a fresh install of Windows 8 and no programs were copied over to the new OS.

Did you restart between now and then, and not after installing ns2? I know with steam games i've never had to, but sometimes restarting is magical.

For me Steam is infatuated with "validate integrity of game cache"

If I ever have a problem, 90% of the time that fixes it in the same way that a re-install would.

    I had Win7. Now I have a new computer with Win8.
There were problems with start of earlier bought games.
At natural selection 2 start game isn't started. At start of game there is a window:
    "couldn't initialize the render device".
    what can it mean?
what it is necessary to make that game went to the personal computer from win8?
I ask you to give help and to prompt as me to arrive.

Windows 8 only has an issue where it is not supplied with an OpenGL driver. If you try to start NS2 in OpenGL mode, you may have an issue unless you download OpenGL for win8.

Otherwise check you drivers for your graphics are installed properly. Supply a techsupport zip will also help.

Goto /steam/steamapps/common/natural selection 2/TechSupport.exe and run the file, then post the results here. A copy of log.txt which is in %AppData%/Roaming/Natural Selection 2/ would be helpful too.
