KDR Tracking Within NS2

BradleyKhanBradleyKhan Join Date: 2012-10-04 Member: 161497Members
I've been watching NS2 develop over the past few years, and I couldn't wait to play it upon release.

Being a former pro CoD4 player (Promod) and StarCraft 2 enthusiast I found myself far favouring the marine side, and unsurprisingly picking it up very quickly.

One thing I would really like to see is a stats page for your steam account. I'd be really interested to know what my KDR is.

(If there is a way of finding out your overall KDR then i apologise, please let me know! :) )

    <a href="http://www.ns2stats.org" target="_blank">http://www.ns2stats.org</a>

You have to play a server with the stats mod enabled. Currently there is a problem with white listing mods, meaning they bypass the "show only non modded servers" filter, whereas before you could see them by default if running certain mods such as this one. I believe they are planning to fix it, and then you should find servers running this mod again.

Another nice perk is it adds assists to the in game scoreboard, something desperately needed imo. Also, be prepared to be flamed for suggesting to have any form of stat tracking or what not - some people just can't accept that others want to play the game in a way that differs from their own. One can track and try to achieve high KDR and not let it influence their teamplay - sometimes it is just fun to look at, regardless if you spent a round or two spam dying as gorge which influenced your stats.

The game isnt about KDR. Its about doing what the team needs.

Also the they really need to make it so 2 rounds are played on each map, and each team is forced to play aliens then marines, so we can stop the team stacking, nobody wants to be alien all the time, but people wants to be marines all the time, it never fails..

The link isnt working. And I am prepared to be flamed. However as much as im interested in my KDR, the stats wouldnt just have to be kills/deaths it could be everything you do within the game, from buildings built/destroyed to distance ran. It would just be a really nice inbuilt feature :)

Oops, I put in the wrong link. Try again and it should work.

KDR is extremely pointless in NS2 - most alien play will be 'ambush-die-respawn' wth skulk.

Should a stat system make it into the game, I vote that KDR is not included - we have enough players raping the 'marine' sign in ready-room already

I know that I would feel wary about anything I do or try in the game if I knew such positive/negative stats were tracked at all.
"Hey! Maybe I'll try Gorge to help out my team a bit more! Er...but I hear it's more of a Support, and surely my KDR will suffer...I'll just stay as Skulk."
"WTF WHY IS NO ONE SWITCHING TO GORGE WE'RE LOSING, FK U ALL"

Team Fortress 2 is a game fully capable of tracking all sorts of stats. But like NS2, it's a team-based game, and some classes get fewer kills. Thus, only people's "scores" are shown in the [Tab] view, and any negative aspect of your stats is never tracked. For instance, it will track your longest life (can only get better) but not how many times you've died (if you let a friend play, that will go up)

A lot of people want KDR out. I agree too. the game is a team game and KDR engourges people to lone hoping to be top of score board and can be vary bad for the team most of the time. I think I read somewhere that they are gunna change this after V1 a few month back but it wasnt a priority but i am not sure it i read it right. Hopefulyl it will change and we can all play a proper team game withreal team play and not COD (or most genral FPS) style tactics.

introduction of KDR = introduction of rambo playstyle. I don't want some 13 year old to say I suck at the game because I have a poor KdR just because I play gunfire magnet as skulk so others can eat the marines that try to kill me. Just because I play Gorge... Just because I'm that one marine who stays back to get an expansion up while everyone else seems to run off in search of things to shoot. Just because when there's an Exo push, an Onos push.. I'm the welder. I'm the healer. Just because I'm a lerk who zips into a room and fills it with gas, weakening the marine team to make it easier for the skulks to kill them.

All I need to know at the end of a game is that I did everything that I could to win it. Even if that means dying more.

Some people are capable of having their KDR tracked and not letting it alter their play style. In my opinion the minority of players, ESPECIALLY the type attracted to ns2, would drastically alter their play if KDR was tracked. Stats are fun, and would be a great addition to the game. The mod I linked above works pretty well for this though - perhaps devs could roll it into the base game. In the mean time I have been favorite marking servers running it and playing mostly on those. They have the added benefit of adding "assists" to the scoreboard too via the stats mod -- encouraging even more teamplay. I even got points for healing an onos to full (+5) on the server running the mod.

So not only does it do stats, it improves the in game scoring system.
