Tick rate

Hi :)

I'd like to know, how you guys increase the tick rate of the server on Windows Server?

If someone tell me, I would add a couple of very performant servers. But I really don't know much about Windows Server and Tickrates.

Thanks!

You don't, unless you're willing to look into patching the server exe yourself.

edit: Server tickrate is locked at 30

    Here's my specs :

    Sandy Bridge i3 2130 3.4 Ghz
    16Go Ram

Oh, you mean to increase it to reach the max of 30...

It's 17% on an empty server, or under what conditions?

Sadly that CPU isn't going to cut is for hosting the game, that is your problem :(

What's the maximum player count, bandwidth situation (Located in a colo, your house, or whatever), etc...

You can try setting the affinity for the server.exe so it uses a dedicated core.

It's a dedicated server from OVH in France.

    Maxplayers : 16

It's bind to use one core only

I'm using Windows Server 2012 fresh installed just for NS2

    IP is : 94.23.248.161 it's currently near 80-90% perf don't know why.

Well whatever player count it's at, I wouldn't go over 16 with that hardware unless you can get an overclock on it.

edit: Ah posted too slow, whoops. You could always check the log.txt in your %appdata%/Natural Selection 2/ directory if you notice strange performance drops like that again. Your server may be throwing console errors or something else strange is going on.

So I won't be able to run more than one server? Or 16 max per server.

Because I'm really not using all the ressources.

    CPU is only at 25%

You could try hosting a 2nd server, but might be performance issues on a dual core.

    Going to test.

    Thx for your answers :)

You should lock each server instance to one core.

Max players you can go is 16 although I recommend 14 for your core. Ensure the Turbo (dynamic clock) features are off so that it is constantly running at 3.4Ghz.

Each physical core should only take 1 server.

In running multiple servers, ensure the ports do not conflict. Each server instance requires the defined port and the port after that (e.g. 27015 and 27016). So do not allocate 27016 to your second server instance.

You might try opening up the server to two cores if possible. On my host, the server uses roughly 1 full core and 25-50% of another core.
